Anybody own the ONKYO HTS3305 system? Seems very reasonable at £299 at RS. The reviews i have seen also seem positive, any user/owner feedback would be appreciated.

This would be connected to a Panasonic TX42X10B, Sky+, DVD Player (will upgrade to BR later) and possibly a new Apple TV unit.

Cheers,

Grant

I bought one of these about a month ago.

I dont think it can be beaten for 299...

The only thing you ahve to remeber with SKY+ if your using an HDMI connection it wont pass through 5.1 on movies or sport.

You will need to connect both HDMI and Optical from the sky box to the receiver then you can go in and assign the hdmi channel to overrid the sound from the sky box so it takes it from the optical connection and you will receive 5.1.

Edit:

Sorry forgot to mention two things.

1. the sub woofer is not powered
2. the speakers to not use standard screw fit if you want to put them on brackets. they use the old fashioned hang on nails / screw type fittings.

yeh i got this and then promptly replaced a lot of stuff that came with it (was my plan anyway)
the fronts and centre are ok but really this is a good 'upgrade' system and a nice starter, this is what i have now:

doesnt really make any difference if the amp is part of the av amp or in the sub enclosure really. but what it des mean is that that av amp doesnt have a proper subwoofer pre-output to drive a powered sub if you wanted to upgrade the one that comes with it.

does anyone know if hooking up my cyclone hd media player to the system with HDMI I will be able to watch and listen to divx and avi formats ? might sound like a stupid question but a friend told me i would not be able to ???

I have one too and have been singing its praises on here since, it's a brilliant bit of kit. It replaced a faulty Samsung system and I was very impressed with how much better the Onkyo was considering the not massively significant difference in price.

alice: That should work fine, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't.

I bought one about a month ago, got it for £230 delivered. Cracking system indeed.

What amp is that? Mine doesn't have the rca's on the right hand side...

...it's not that big a restriction in reality.

All you need is a sub with speaker inputs - labelled "High Level Input" on subs that have it ...and you don't need to spend mad money to get the feature.

Here's an Eltax for under £60. OK, not the last word in devastating earth-shattering seismic performance, but it's not going to break the bank either :D

...and here's how you connect it

high-level inputs on a sub with an amp thats driving satellites does not mix, you know that.

I suppose he could use the hi-level output for the sub? i dont know how they are connected up, but even so it wouldnt be difficult to wire it up i guess.

Ah, wrong picture

In the case of the HTS3305 you would connect the sub out speaker connections from the amp to the sub.

The pic above is for stereo and driving the amp from Speaker B outs.

Planning on picking one of these sets up for around £230 in the next couple of weeks, I can't wait! I was thinking of going for the Logitech z5500s but as this is only around £30 and has many more features that I'd be able to make use of in the future it's a no brainer!
