My uncle wants to learn how to trade stocks, but he would like more information:

1) what is the best online course (UK) where there is a new video each week or whatever

2) the best software to train with

3) the best software to trade with

he has seen these online websites that can you can do trading through, but from what i understand he wants to deal in short-term stocks, no longer than a week, not in long term investments

anyway, im hoping you guys can shed some light on this :)

Good post. I get free access to Bloomberg Professional ($1900 per month) yet i dont have clue when it comes to trading & a fix the damn thing every day for banks. Wouldnt mind making £30 a week for Friday nights.

He'd likely be better off just investing it tbh...

As for online courses to teach you how to trade stocks they will be very dubious at best.

that doesnt make sense

Why doesn't it?

Suppose you find an edge/inefficiency in the markets do you either:

a) exploit it for $$$ (in doing so you do also reduce the edge/inefficiency to a degree)

b) publish the existence of said edge thus causing other people to exploit it (consider that publishing the existence of an edge or inefficiency helps other market participants to exploit it and the edge/inefficiency is then reduced more rapidly)

The reality is that people who make money from short term trading will tend to be quite secretive about their methods and to be honest what they do is likely to be beyond the reach of your uncle anyway. He would likely be much better off simply investing his money.

The alternative is for him to go and buy some books on 'technical analysis' - think of it as a sort of stats/data mining for dummies approach mixed in with a bit of advanced tea leaf reading, superstition and arbitrarily rules someone has pulled out of their arse... he could then pretend he knows what he's doing and go join the other day trading chumps whilst likely losing his money. In order to lose money even quicker he should chose an expensive method to trade that provides lots of leverage - a spread betting or retail FX account is often a massive rip off and will generally quickly reduce the size of your initial investment. :D

These guys will steal your money, you may as well gamble on your favourite sports team tbh. Nobody knows how the markets will turn, look at the financial crisis for example, it seems nobody saw it coming, so that tells you a story in itself.

Go for BP shares, or search for types companies that will do well in a recession or a good option just now is to invest in gilts.

Call me a cynic but I cannot see how anyone who needs to ask an internet forum like this how to trade the stock market will ever make any money trading the stock market.

Well it's good that he knows the difference between investing and trading, in fact right now is a great time to do that, such large movements up and down. Sure he wants to trade stocks? Equity is so slow. I'd tell him to have a look at forex.

Since you're not investing you don't care if the company is under or overvalued do you, no need for corporate evaluation. Does he want to trade news? That is gamble on spike or fade the spike? Does he want to trade indices using technical/fundamental analysis?

The most basic thing he can do is to find a broker (they're tons of them out here) deposit money and see what happens, see how he wants to trade. You don't have to use real money most brokers give you fake money to practice with, everything is the same as the real thing but the money is not.

Read a few books on trading stock markets while using fake money see what kid of trading is your style.

Basically learn by doing.

As for courses that "teach" you how to do it, they're absolutely useless, they give you the same information you can find for free on the internet
