Online games you wish still had large player base

Planetside - playing public beta was one of the best gaming experiences. Then it got slower/more buggy with every patch for about 6 months. Then they nerfed/buffed the game making it quite dull. BFRs..etc were a joke along with the whole core combat rubbish.

Crikey, can'y believe only one person has said DAoC so far, that was / probably still is a really good game, was so sad to have to leave when i did. Although i guess its reasonably old now.

SWG and SoF2.
SOF2 ftmfw.

i still feel sof2 was one of the single best online games ever. it had cheating like any other but, maybe it was just a time with less people online but it felt quite fair most of the way through a year or two of playing it. CS:S is just almost every game someone doing way to good. i'm normally the top or in the top 3 in most games, i'm no joke- extremely good at the game. so when someone comes in and pawns me easily, and pawns everyone its obvious and in the last couple months when i've got back into it, it seems worse than before.

Renegade for some reason never really got any credit. i think it was, well it was a LONG time ago now. people weren't just buying games and spending as much time online as people do now. it seemed to have a very small player base which is what led to a fairly short reign as being really great. but it was a fantastic game. everyone loved C&C and making it first person was great, but i think people didn't rate it because single player, despite being kinda cool and playable, was fairly crap at the same time. it was cool to play through a game as a FPS, but the AI was horrific, maps weren't great but somehow was still cool enough to be ok. but playing multiplayer, going inside the hand of nod, blowing stuff up, fixing stuff was all really quite fantastic.

i do seem to remember a very very specific point where, i think orca's were introduced and the game went from not entirely balanced but good enough, to everyone camping orca spawns or being a sniper as the orca's only took two hits from snipers. it destroyed the game from what i recall.

would love to see same game style now on a new engine.

Another vote for Planetside. Used to be amazing when I first played it. :(

Planetside, yes it's still got quite a few players but dear god I wish the giant robots were never introduced. Plus at its peak the player base was massive compared to now. The game really benefitted from the extra players.
Yep, the BFRs really messed things up.

Heh, I was thinking about DAoC but I dont wish it had a bigger playerbase again because I would end up loosing another 3 years of my life :p

PlanetSide would be the one for me, such a great game - hopefully Huxley can step up to what planetside used to be!

Oh and TFC, I spent many nights playing until 5am :) - thats where I started off my gaming days, then moved on to CS and then DAoC.

for me Neocron 1, at its peak it was the most fun game ive ever played.

I'd agree with you, it was a great game. If it had a large playerbase paying the sub fees, the devs would be able to afford the resources to fix the long standing bugs, update it and fullfill it's potential

A little known mmorpg called The Myth of Soma. At peak it only had around ~500 regular players and now it's all but dead and buried.

Some excellent memories though.
Was an amazing game, my first online game. Ahh the memories, was a great community on it i had a laugh, like everywhere it had the *****, but brilliant game. To be honest the game was ruined not long after the big patch that added new spells and devils.

Loved the PK'ing on it ;) .

Another vote for Desert Combat. Although not as good looking as BF2, what it lacked in looks more than made up for in gameplay and fun. Lots of good games that have died a slow death.
