only showing two cores on I7 7700k

This happened to me when I installed a phenomenal 1050t in a old dual core system without re installing windows. Under number of cores menu there are some tick boxes uncheck number of processors and reboot. Then re access the menus you'll be able to select 8 if it worked.

I'd try it once more and if it still doesn't work then send it back.

Perhaps this is a sign to wait for coffee lake for the performance/price drops :p

Wheres this? In system config?
Msconfig. Then under boot advanced options. Above number of cores is a tick box uncheck it and reboot then back to msconfig boot and tick the box and see if you can select the right amount of cores. My one only said 2 cores before however speccy said 6 core. Did that for no real reason and it let me select six cores. After that it was massively quicker

Your a STAR.
All cores showing

Personally I found unticking it to be best and it will go up to the maximum.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Coretemp will only show the physical cores and not logical cores? Use Task Manager and see how many logical cores it can see.

I'm surprised it took so many posts for someone to suggest checking msconfig :p.

tbqh what happens is msconfig says 4 and wont let you go up to 8 i think he checked that early on its just for some reason unticking and rebooting seems to reset the counter.
