Somehow had a "middle aged moment" at the Sainsbury's ATM this afternoon, picked up my card but somehow managing to walk off without the £200. Only discovered when we got to the checkout, embarrassment doesn't begin to describe it and the missus reckons I'm starting to go senile...

Sainsbury's very helpful and able to play the CCTV footage which shows the money going back in - no one came along and exercised finders keepers. So am I right in assuming the £200 will go straight back in our current account and we shouldn't be out of pocket as a result of my stupidity?

:o:o:o

Did you think the thing beeping at you was some form of minimalist techno track playing from the chavs Cleo parked behind you??? or are you going deaf as well as senile

Only time I take out more than £20 from an ATM is if I am hitting the casino.

What did you need £200 cash for?

Prefer to pay cash for main shopping, then split the rest for road money for the next seven days. May have to revisit that policy after today!

Must have got distracted is the only explanation. I bet the shop staff were having a chuckle at my expense too (and rightly so) though I got the impression it happens more often than you think!

Not sure if serious.

serious. why would you go to a cash point to take cash, which can be lost, stolen, washed even left in ATM's and then walk inside a shop which has secure terminals which take the exact amount of cash from your account.

you can nowadays also get cash back cards of all sorts providing you with money back on purchases.

there is no reason to use cash in this situation.

apart from bankruptcy. OP, are you bankrupt?

Maybe he was buying something in a private sale and the seller wanted cash? People selling cars quite often stipulate cash, even when costing £1000's.

£200 is not a large amount of money to take out in cash.

If it got sucked back in OP it'll appear in your account but not straight away unfortunately :(
