Oops At The Cashpoint

what? the stick up your arse?

Not really, you just fully admitted the only reason you switched to using cash was because of the lack of availability of card payment systems. That isn't an issue in the UK, definitely not for supermarket shopping.

In Brazil almost everywhere accepts card, all the way down to people renting out deck chairs on the beach. And you only need to cancel your card every couple of months or so when it gets cloned.

the money won't go straight back in
you need to ring your bank and they sort it out, happened with me and i had to ring natwest

I once asked for £20 and got given £60. I felt guilty so handed it back in at the bank. A few days later I received a letter commending my honesty and they credited my account with £100.

Was over 20 years ago and unfortunately it has never happened again....

Surprised the cashier didn't go "oh thank you sir I'll log it for you" *pockets cash *

I think comparing merchant practices in central Europe with the UK, is like comparing sending a letter to sending a text message, one is clearly superior for time taken.

Bunch of old-fashioned luddites :(

Stuman's posts are a bit idiotic but he's right that it's almost pointless carrying cash these days, especially in London.

Buses and trains work on contactless. Taxi's take cards but why would you with Uber? 99% of shops take card, we live in a word of Amazon and Ebay, everything goes out via direct debit, credit cards actually reward you in percentage terms for spending on them, if you lose your credit card you cancel it but if you lose your money it's gone.

Collected my prescription yesterday to be informed on the desk "oh, and we only accept card, is that okay?"

Except in special circumstances like meeting someone from Gumtree or other such nonsense, why would you ever carry cash?

Done it with 40quid before , was gutted don't even know if it went in couldn't be bothered with hassle .

Remember a woman doing 300quid in front of me and walked off , no one was about apart from me and I chased after her only for her to snatch it out of my hand and walk off without saying anything . should have kept it the ungrateful bitch

yeah but what you've got to remember is 90% of the country isn't London.

Cash is king, do not be deluded by plastic tech.

Cash saves a few quid on many purchases and building work. ;)

I try to always have good few quid in cash about as you never know, the banks cash machine system might crash the next day etc.

Always keep at least £50-100 cash min around. ;)

From a banking perspective, this is nonsense.

Cash saves a few quid on many purchases and building work. ;)

Tax avoidance is pretty cool though.

I agree on this part.

One of the lessons I learned when my Dad died was that actually £5000 in an envelope is actually about the most useful thing you can possibly have!

(All other accesses to spending money dries up very quickly after a death and yet you are expected to deal with it all within a week or so!, (you can get it back eventually, but not necessarily at the time!))

If you have elderly parents to consider, this is something to bear in mind!

Practically every city in the UK is up to standard, bar a few indiefeeleygropy shops.

Anything outside the city-scape is up in the air though, no serious need...as there's nothing there. :p
