Opening a bottle without a bottle opener

paper trick works. tried last night!

this may save me from using my teeth in future, now i just have to make sure i have a piece of paper on me at all times beer consumption my ensue

Or get a belt buckle that has a bottle opener built in :p
Both of my daily belts do lol

need to be careful with this, when you offer a lady a drink then imediately start unbuckling your belt things can go south rather quickly (giggity)

for some reason i have about 5 different bottle openers on various bags, key rings etc and i never seem to have one on me, key trick works well for me, just don't use your car keys...

Oh, I'm sorry, I realise that was quite unclear.

The OP was looking for a bottle opener, in most of the hotels I've stayed in there's been a bottle opener mounted to the bathroom wall. Usually above the bin.

Moot point now, unless he's on a giant, 24 hour bender.

You can do it with a very tightly folded up piece of paper - fold it about 7 times until it becomes rock hard. Lever it off the top of your thumb under the rim - it still hurts, but it hurts less than using a knife/spoon handle or something. You're able to apply more force before the pain gets too much and the top digs in to the paper slightly making it easier to maintain contact.

Literally anything with a hard edge is a bottle opener, other bottles (most often), lighter, a coin, keys, a drinking glass, a rolled up and folded bank note/ reciept/ anything, a pair of jeans scrunched up, a knife (common in the kitchen), a frozen chicken, tv remote.

I can't honestly remember the last time I used a bottle opener, I tend to grab something hard and open with that.

You need a strong grip to be able to do it with smaller objects like coins or keys but overall it's all about leverage, hold the bottle by the neck firmly, grasp your hard object in your hand and place under the lid then push against your hand gripping the neck to lever the top of the bottle off.

If you have wimpy little hands it'll hurt by the way, take up piano or bass or something, you'll get a grip like a vice.

Use a key and your thumb for leverage.

Or, if you can get the technique right, you can do it with a 2 pence piece.

edit: I hope after 24 hours he's now had a beer.
