I'm thinking of buying a nintendo DS, b ut in my house i have one black ds thats dead from water damage (nothing else wrong with it) and a pink ds that fell to the fall and as a result has damaged the top screen and cracked the case other then that it still work. What i want to know if would it be better for my to buy a brand new ds for myself or buy a replacement screen and move the pink ds electronics to the black shell?

Bit of an impossible question to answer - I'm not sure either way is objectively "better"! Personally I'd be keen to have a go at the fixing route - it's only about £20 (according to a quick Google) for a replacement top LCD screen, and it's fun having a go at stuff like that. If it all goes pear-shaped, then you won't have lost a great deal (and I'm sure you can sell on the two DSes and the new screen as replacement parts to help fund a new one...).

I have another question whats the chances that on the water damaged ds both screen remain working, because then it becomes a simple case of swapping m/b.
Good point. Worth a try, isn't it? I would have thought there's a decent chance that the screen will be fine. And trying it out won't do any harm, and could save you a bit of cash.

Ok minds made up Dr kidkhaos is going to surgery today once i find a tri screwdriver thingy. Be a nice birthday gift to myself if i can fix it :D

,cheers for your help at this ungodly hour

No worries. Good luck, and let us know how you get along! (With pics to show off your handiwork if you can be bothered!)

I've got a single pink pixel on my on top screen, been there since I bought it ages ago. After looking at several walk-thrus on how to replace the top screen they all mention how it's not possible to do without damaging the connection/wires to the speakers. As such, I decided I'd rather live with the pink pixel than have no sound.

If you can pull it off and not fudge the speakers then let us know :)

Where did you see that? The guides I've seen suggest that you need to be a bit careful, and state that some desoldering/resoldering of the speaker connections is required, but none of them have said that it's not possible...

It was a while back, probably before the summer. The guides I looked at must have been done by those not proficient with a soldering iron and so dismissed the notion of being able to replace the top screen without breaking.

I might just open mine up later and see what the fuss is about (if I can find my Wii's triwing screwdriver) :)

tri screw came today did some operating, everythings fine except the touch screen is off by 1-2 mm, tried recalibrating but no good. So all i have to do is order a touch screen replacement and im good to go. Not bad for 10 quid :D

Are you sure the touch screen digitiser isn't out of alignment with the lcd, rather than being borked? Could just be that it needs pushing over 1-2 mm.

Fair enough, I actually replaced the digitizer on one a few weeks ago so if you have any questions just fire away.
