Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Something for PC users :)

Hi all,

I know a lot of people have had a LOT of questions recently about the PC mission editor, and rather than trying to answer all these questions individually we've made the decision to release to the community the actual PC Mission Editor help file that will be shipping with the game!

I've had a good read of the document myself, and am confident that having access to it should answer pretty much all of your questions, and will also show you just how flexible and powerful the editor truly is. I should also stress that the mission designers when creating the game had no additional technology or internal hacks to make content for the game other than the PC mission editor – You're getting 100% the same toolset as they used.

The dev team have told me that they are geniunely very excited to see what the community creates using the editor, and being able to get your hands on this document before the launch of the game should really give you a solid grounding in how the editor works and what possibilites you can explore upon the games release!

You can download the help document by clicking Here

With regards the rumoured 40 entity limit for the editor, that information is incorrect and below are some bullet points to help clear up the matter:

* 63 entities can be held in memory at all times
* These entities can be anywhere on the island
* These can be vehicles or soldiers
* Flashpoint uses spawning extensively to add and remove soldiers and vehicles from the world and replace dead soldiers. Basically this means that you can spawn and despawn units, so if you wanted to have guys disappear because they’re too far away from the battle or not needed anymore, then you can and free up the spaces they used.
* You can set up vehicles such as tanks with "virtual crews" so that the tank and "virtual crew" are classed as just one entity eg. a vehicle with no observable units mounted like the tanks can have a virtual crew which only counts as 1 entity and has the effect of a driver/commander/gunner combination
* Only soldiers and vehicles count as entities, meaning adding things like sandbags, barbed wire, gun emplacements, concrete walls, do not count towards the entity total.

Not sure about this game. It looks really good, and would seem to have a high level of realism, but that's my issue - is it going to be any fun?!!

After all, that's why I play games. :)

i love the look of this but i am the same,is it going to be as fun as mw2.I have high hopes for both but its coming out at a really bad time with mw2 coming out a few weeks later.

I guess it depends on your definition of "fun" this is going to be a lot more slow paced and tactical then COD. Its very different and I believe the 2 can sit side by side on anyone's game collection. If your idea of FPS heaven is COD then I'd get that first and see how you feel. But this game will play very very different to COD the two cant really be compared.

For me this looks to be more fun then COD but only because I prefer my games more on the sim side. If you're an arcade shooter only person then I'd probably say avoid it. Having said I'm getting both for the diversity

What sim FPS games have you played in the past mate? RO, flashpoint? Arma? Project reality? What were your thoughts on them?

Pre-ordered this a couple weeks ago at £17.99. Quite happy about that, especially if its gonna equal COD:MW2.
Does look rather special.
Just to confirm as i've not read the full brief, or the last 310 posts....it is a FPS with tactics right?

Its a slow paced, open world tactical sandbox shooter with a heavy emphasis on realism/sim mechanics.

The 2 games are totally different. I bought COD4:MW and hated the single player due to the constant spawning enemies. forcing you forward to a "checkpoint" that stopped the enemy from spawning. I also hated the random spawning grenades appearing at your feet when you hid behind cover with no line of sight for them to have even thrown the grenades!

Multiplayer however was great for a banter with mates, and was good when I fancied a simple run and gun.

I'm expecting OFP2 to be more akin to what I want in a single player, set amount of enemies guarding a position, and reinforcements that will actually arrive by vehicle, only IF they have been called by the current enemies.

Far slower and more tactical approach to missions, with no "corridors" to go through. To me that is much more fun, CODs gameplay (single player) was more infuriating than fun for me

I got it on pre-order so will have it thursday, but I got to work thurs and friday. Oh well :(

So this is where the big thread on this is hiding. I'm getting this pre order with bonus mission from an undisclosed retailer. Cannot wait for this game to be released. I hope it lives up to my expectations more than Arma 2 did.

Zen, be good to form a fire team with you btw. I will be playing this co-op on PC from day one. We should make sure we form an OcUK clan (if the game has clan support of any kind).

Edit: Hmm forget that. I just realised you are all mostly going to be hitting this up on the 360.
