What sort of age car are you talking about.

Or is this people talking about new cars using the experience of 20yr old defender?

I’ve had rusted in seat bolts on my s2000. Hardly a measure of build quality! More the fact it leaked water. Bolts going through the entire floor is pretty normal by the way...

A 20 year old defender is probably better built lol

This is a 2004, but the newer ones aren't much better. I'd say probably half of the ones I see have problems with the air suspension too. It's funny seeing a few lined up and all sitting wonky.

Which RR Evoque was built in 2004? (Hint: none were)
Which trim levels get air suspension? (Hint: none do)

Stop talking out of your ****.

How the body looks is irrelevant, it's the same shoddy engineering underneath them. They go wrong, a lot. Owning any of them out of warranty is a huge gamble.

How many you driven?

Mine was awesome in the snow as under the ‘pretty’ looks there is a proper 4WD system, obviously a mute point on the 2wd. The high driving is nice to see what’s going on and getting in and out (myself or child) is much easier than a saloon.

The handling is much more car like than you would expect from a car of its size and in comparison to everything else I have driven in that class.

They are popular for a reason
We have the SE Tech and I completely agree. For what they are the driving characteristics are surprisingly car like and relatively sporty. Considering they are somewhat similar to the Freelander 2 the handling is significantly better. On a side note I think both you and I are qualified to talk about them as being sporty since we both drive M3s as well!

Unless you're talking from personal and relative experiences I think we can safely ignore your opinions. You cannot compare a 2004 Range Rover to a car launched in 2011.

ALL modern cars are complex, some more so than others, so you can argue that owning any modern car outside of warranty is a gamble. For example, I wouldn't want to own my M3 without a warranty. The potential bill if something goes wrong is huge.

31. Land Rover - 50.6% reliability rating
ok ... i don't partrcularly trust whatcar/whathifi

BUT land rover don't even appear in german jdpower http://www.anusedcar.com/index.php/tuv-report-year-age/2017-2-3/577 did not have 500 examples.
But these comments https://www.osv.ltd.uk/are-range-rover-evoques-reliable/
and, as they indicate, categorisation as an unremrkable car in jdpower see https://www.jdpower.com/Cars/Crossovers
are not compelling w/o a delta warranty.

Jesus, I had heard they were bad....but not THAT bad

"A study by What Car? Found that 71% of Range Rovers broke down after three years."

You're gonna need that warranty OP

Does not sound so improbable that AA was needed for 71% in first 3 years, that's 1in4 per year, if you read all link
JD Power measures their reliability by looking at how many faults the car has suffered over the past year, models that score two out of five have scored just 20% out of 100%

[These evoque/LR comments, are more implausible maybe need a urban vehicle myths thread

They used to be stolen by hacking the keyless entry system, but even now they're as trendy, desirable and as proportionally overpriced as the latest iPhone, which is why I fear my folks are refusing to use their garage
....
We bought one last year and love it! No problems so far. In order to get insurance we had to fit a tracker but the one off cost reduced the cost of the premiums to a very low level.
.....
Well known Zambian saying
If you want to go into the bush take a Land Rover
If you want to come out again take a land cruiser.
