Opinions on HP ProLiant ML115 G5

Ahh just found this thread and they look ideal. Without wanting to break any rules are these available for cheapy prices still ?

I don't think were going to see £99ish any time soon to be honest. They'll fob us off with the blame on the exchange rates, though to be fair, the exchange rate was much better back then.

Goosed my BIOS yesterday by flashing it to the latest version!!

I would recommend using the USB key method. Also their is an issues with the BIOS that causes the fan to constantly run at full power. To fix it you should also flash the Lights Out controller even if you don't have it installed.

I didn't know there was one. When I bought mine a few months back, I checked the support website and it was already the latest. What is the version number of the new one, and what changes ? Mine is working fine, I'm unlikely to want to flash it.

I finally got my ML115 installed in my studio as the main Pro Tools workstation. I've got it hooked up to an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O via a Promise PCI firewire card. I've got three single SATA drives in it, one with OS/Page, one with RTAS instruments and the third streaming audio. All run under XP32 (PT 7 doesn't support 64 bit unfortunately) with 4Gb (i.e. 3Gb) RAM.

So far so good- it's replacing a Q6600 system which is now my gaming rig, so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, but to be honest I've not noticed any lack of performance. If anything, audio streaming seems to be better on the ML115, I've got the audio running at 32 samples throughout. Marvellous for the money!

I did buy a cheapo Nvidia PCI-E graphics card for it though (6400LE I think) as the onboard VGA is painfully slow.

I may splash out on the PT8 upgrade and see how it fares.

I am having problem , getting performance from pci-e x16 graphics, any help would be appriciated. i have tried many things, but you may know something i have missed out.

I installed windows 7 , using geforce 9500gt graphics card pci-e (2.0) .

using cpuz , showing that the pci-e link is only x1 and support maximum of x1 , while it should be x16 .

then tryed pci-e x16 ( v 1.0 incase it dont like newer ver 2.0) ati card . same problem, tryed another grphics card x16 ati. same problem.

also updated chipset drivers , grphics drivers and bios. but still not getting the x16 link .

graphics score of 3dmard 05 is about 4600.

any idea's ?? how to the prahics link at full x16 link ?

Yes i am testing the performance of the ML115 5G HP server .

my idea was also to see if i can , not share the graphics onboard memory while use Vertulisation. but the vertualisation vmware's Ex 4.0 uses their own driver, so cat use the extra graphics card memory or 3d, unless there is a way round it.

I though i could not. but you dont know if you dont ask.

any idea with graphics link bandwidth problem? showing ony x1 when spose to be x16 ?
