Opinions on Mondeo ST220

and for the record, the ST220 is a rarer car than an Aston Martin (according to top gear)

It is definitely my next car.

i wonder if I got one with cruise would I be able to behave myself and drive around slower than I do in my focus ST???

could it be the car to stop me getting my last set of points or do I honestly need to buy an LX?? :(

Was a passenger in Wayn0rs ST220 many a time up and down the m6 and toll and loved the car. Loads of room, comfy and goes quite quick too. Liked it soo much I opted for a 06 ST TDCI as i need that bit extra MPG and I absolutly love the car.

Oh and cruise control in theory stops you speeding, but its only really useful on long streches such as motorway as it disengages on braking. I still dont bother with it most of the time.

I love the ST220. But im not sure how much more it offers over a re-mapped Octavia vRS, probably little to nothing in performance terms. The vRS has it on fuel economy too. But V6 noises aree addictive, I still miss the sound of my Golf VR6, and the interior and exterior asthetics are also very tasty. :)

Still not sure if it offeres enough over the vRS to cost so much more?

Wow that looks great, now that my mileage has reduced quite a bit I might save up for one of these as my daily run about :)

Neil.

I'll tell you what it offers for me (and please don't jump down my throat, I had a vRS.. LR02 TLO, I loved it so much I remember the reg!!! lol).. and its the amount of grief I WON'T get in the office for having a Skoda.

Plus the interior plastics etc are of a higher quality than the vRS and it doesn't have those utterly crazy white seats and carpets.

In total though, not a great deal although they tend to come with more options too, my vRS was stock trim and it had climate and a cd changer but not much else, you often find fully loaded ST220s as they original owner (often a comapny) ticked every box.

Plus you get full leather as standard, 6 speed box, v6 engine etc etc.

But fair point, the vRS is a wicked car, loved mine.

I've never had any grief, infact I find it quite funny how quick people seem to praise it when I say I've got a Skoda- "Oh, they're good motors. Basically a VW ain't they" :p

I'm with you on your other points though. A face lifted ST220 feels like a better quality product on the inside. The vocals from the engine department are much nicer. Nicer seats and as you say, no silly white carpet.

Give me 2 same age/milage examples of each and I'd still pick the vRS. Give me the same choice and throw in a fuel card and I'd have the ST220 everytime :)

I got a bit but yeah i guess it was ok.. my problem was it was brand spanking new in 2002 and it broke down 3 times with ignition coil failure which was affecting all the 1.8T 20V engines (TT's, GTis etc) but given how long the parts were taking to turn up and the fact it was a skoda I got some grief for that.
