Hi,
I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this site i made for my call of duty clan. It's just a fun site where ppl can watch some vids, check out some screenshots, get files etc.
On the 'servers' page the servers shown are actually down atm so the status bar may not work.
Please download the font here Download
Also, on the main page is there a way i can set the background image to fit/stretch to the viewer's screen?
Click here to view the site : Clan Site
Any opinions, views, thoughts for improvement would be greatly appreciated.
AMD :)

cant read the text really

youve used bmps not jpgs, 3mb per pic ? ouch.

and the background is just dodgy :E

if its you first site, nice one, if its not, then  stop making them :p

Well I personally can't read anything.

You shouldnt need to have to download a font to view the site properly

Background image is awful and you have used tables.

..........for a start

But since it is your very first website, then it aint that bad, i was exactly the same when creating my first website.

hehe i'll change any bmp files to jpg :)
But i don't get why u say u can't read anything, i must have super eyes :p
The 'Scatty-Hosting' link/site was made using templates. I wanted to try something something starting with a completely blank page, no templates :)

no offence but LOL, I guess you're on 1024x768 - you don't realise that the background just tiles and scrolls all over the place? It hasn't really got any structure but if you give it that it's got the content to fill it.

Oh and have a look at the internet, quite a lot of pages work well with structure, use those ideas into your own design.

As quoted.

View it 1280 x 1024 and the background is a mess :(

If you are going to continue with the same image background, then move the header up the screen and over the sky part ( easier to read )

Fonts need some attention too , Too many lines are using the "occasional " different colour letters / words ( again making it difficult to read )

Keep at it.

I wish you wouldn't LOL at peoples work Tom.

I think the site is definitely poor compared to professional sites, but for a first site, and for his CoD clan, I think it works fine. All the information is there and easy to navigate. I have no problems reading it, and like he says it's meant to be "fun".

The need for a font is a bit of a problem, as nobody including myself is going to want to install a font for it. Keep body text to a recognised default font. You can use fancy fonts, but only in headings and such where you're using an image. The background is fine as long as the resolution is low enough, but these guys with the big widescreen reses will see it repeating at the edges. If you really want that as a background, lighten/darken it up to make text more legible. Nothing you can do about repeating, without using some javascript or something to detect the res and stretch the image accordingly.

Keep up with it, look at some other clan sites, nick some ideas, learn html and css. :)

I'm sorry but I love laughter, I laugh at my own stuff all the time, thinking where the hell is this going?

I'm probably going to sound really arrogant now which I can assure you I'm not but if everyone was nice in the world, it may be nice but people wouldn't move forward. Reading back actually I was a bit harsh but it would have been fine had I included more constructive critism. A few things you could do:

  • Change the background, maybe use the repeating dirt style (even though it's 360kb just for the bg) but have a main content section distinguishable from the background, and include a nice big header (250px high) of the background you're using atm.
  • Move away from times new roman, get a nice sans-serif on there.
  • have the 'forte' font centered on the page rather than off to the right
  • when you've clicked on a link the blue is hard to read over the dirt, might like to change the navigation styling
  • use thumbnail pictures that resize to the right size not just shrink them, the quality decreases

Sorry about before, that was the Simon Cowell response.

There's some plugin on there that failed in IE6. It then went on to crash the browser. I don't know if it was Javascript or some buggy applet you've got on there.

i think it's just a standard quicktime audio plugin
I've searched on google and found some scripts that adjust the background image to fit the page, might try that.

On first load the homepage background stretches/fits 1280 x 1024 , fine :)

If i click on one of the other pages ( screenshots for example ) and then click to return to homepage the background tiles again.

just thought id let you see what i see, i really dont like it, i have also not installed your font as no one who views the website will have it.

Also i dont have quicktime again your website should be able to run without this, im not sure what u have used it for but its asking for it. :p

Not nice imo.

Prob best to clean up that background pic, make the menu stand out more, give the website obvious sections/areas.

Tried to get a pic of the streched one but my internet playing up for uploading the pics.

But on my one it has streched, but still dont look nice and clean. Also it gives me left/right scroll, dont want that.
