Optane memory?

Noticed these m10 16gb optane drives go for 4 quid these days and still seem to have good 1T 4k performance and low latency.
Iv ordered some to test if they are ok to replace a ram drive with which is used for browser cache.
With dram and nand going up in price though it may be time to experiment with alternatives.
Has anyone else used optane as just a regular drive and not in it's cache form?
 
I’ve got like 5 of those drives and I’m sure that they work fine as a non cache drive but they are tiny and most operating systems these days require much more storage space.

Great for a NAS or Firewall OS with 2 Optane drives used in a RAID 1 setup.
 
Yes thinking the same way to use in my mini pc router.
Can also disable the 8gb ram drive I have and use 16gb optane for that duty.
 
Tempted to pick up a pair to try in my Synology as Cache and repurpose the larger NVME that I have in there at the minute
 
Drives arrived today and all seems legit. Performance is good on 1t
Will get screenshots up when I get back home but so far it's replaced my 8gb ram drive I used to use.

this is on the chipset gen2 x2 slot
when stressing it got to 40c. although i do have a big heatsink on it. the drive is thinner than regular m.2 drives so my smaller heatsink didnt make contact so used the big one that has variable adjustment

Am I missing something? Those read/ write speeds seem pretty slow. Even with recent price rises you can pick up a 1Tb SSD for £60 which be faster

These were absolute throw away money (<£5 each until recently) and have fairly strong RND4K read speeds.

With new 1TB NVMe being £100+ now, anything cheap that can be reused is surely a bonus
 
Yes these cost £3.20 each. I needed some m.2 heatsinks and to make the 8 quid free delivery mark IV added 2 more drive to the order.
Perfect for small appliances like raspberry pi etc.
Real world performance is good.
Also checked they came with latest firmware as confirmed by intel SSD software

These 16gb drives are a lot faster than the 64gb forsee SSD I pilfered from a steamdeck
