Optically Flat

The Apogee is about 5C better than the Storm on otherwise identical setups for quad core processors (mainly down to the fact that the cores aren't in the centre of chip). The Storm is being kept for future.

Jokester

Edit: Swiftech are away to release a new block apparently specifically designed for quad cores.

i had mine like that, but its vertical now don't think it made any difference.

I got some sheets of Tamiya finishing abrasives, quick question...

Can these be used wet and dry ? looks and feels damn nice paper, a lot better than the stuff in halfords anyway...

Not sure if its wet n dry paper as i don't understand Japanese hehe ;)

After reading this thread I'm going to lap my cpu!

A couple of questions...

1. Where can I get hold of some fine sandpaper... B&Q?

2. I have a pain of glass that I can use, is it a case of mounting the sand paper on the glass then rubbing the cpu along the sandpaper in a circular motion?

3. Has anyone done it to their heatsink too?

Cheers!

See this thread.

B&Q prolly sell what scewfix does (1200g Wet & Dry Sanding Paper pack is the finest)
You could souce local model shops or even car body repair shops if you don't want to buy online.

Cool, well I've got some paper... 400, 600, 800, 1000 & 1200

I've started lapping the cpu interestingly the copper showed up on the corners first followed by the middle of IHS I'm up to 800 at the moment I'll finish the rest off and post my results.

If its concave, copper will show around the outside first. Sounds like yours is concave.

I've just sourced some 1500 and 2000 along with some 600,800 and 1200 I bought from a diy store. I'll be lapping my cpu later if I finally get the time.

Never lapped a cooler or cpu before, but will be getting an E6300/Tuniq Tower soon and these threads have got me interested. Just wondering if anyone has the time, would it be worth doing a step by step guide in lapping?

I know its not rocket science or anything, but for those of us who are interested but have never done it before, it would be a massive help and i know i for one would be grateful. Prehaps a a sticky or something where people could add tips and pointers, just an idea. :)

Yeh definalty, been reading up on lapping now. Hadnt heard about it until now. I would be very appreciated if some1 could do a small guide as im a bit confused still.

Think i mite do it to my artic freezer pro aswell!
