Hey guys,

I've finally got my noise/static issues sorted with a Crative Labs Audigy FX 5.1 PCIe sound card and Kingsont HyperX Cloud headset.

Now I'm just trying to work out how best to configure the setup. Windows 8.1 is detecting the headset/speaker as 5.1 setup despite being headphones. As far as I can tell 5.1 isn't working if I disable the SBX studio pro.

I'm at a loss how I should set all this up. Should I just leave windows seeing it as 5.1 instead of changing to stereo? Then I guess I can just enable/disable the SBX Studio pro to switch between stereo / virtual surround?

V1, going via front panel connected to the new sound card.

Default settings via windows when checking config was 5.1 (with the option of stereo).

By default the sound card enables it's SBX surround stuff.

Gah, I remember having the same problem when I had a Sound Blaster Z in my system, Windows never seemed to agree with what the sound card's control panel was saying and I never found a solution.

On my STX (different system I know) I have to set the number of channels to 6 (5.1) or 8 (7.1) and then hit the GAME button for in game surround sound. I then have to change channels back to 2 and hit the HF (bypass) button for listening to music without any signal processing. I don't touch anything in the Windows panel.

So when using headset should I change the windows setting to stereo or leave it at 5.1?
Also I currently have it set to 24bit 48k studio quality, is that right?

Cheers!

Just set it to stereo in Windows and let SBX handle 5.1 with virtual surround.

I set mine to 24/96 and just forget about it.

better yet, disconnect the front panel audio from the sound card - the cable acts as a very effective antenna for EMI

Seems to be working absolutely fine in front panel atm, with no audible loss of quality of interference.

Thanks so much for all your help.

If its working then all fine and dandy but if you start heading funny electrical noises that's the first thing you should disconnect.
