OrbusVR MMO Open Alpha Test: 28th-30th July

Will any of you guys be on later to give it a go?

Let me know what time and I will be here. :)
Was out Saturday, but will be on Sunday afternoon if you want a game (assuming you mean Landfall from your previous post?). I own it, great little game, but never played it online. If you meant Orbus, could give it another go.

Sounds like I'm not missing much
Yeah - it's definitely in an "alpha" state. I think they've made some unwise design desisions though. Everything seems too spaced out, so when coupled with the polygon art style, it kind of makes the world feel empty. A forest for example feels more like a massive field with trees in it due to the distance between everything.

Not managed to get online with anyone I know, and of course that could make a big difference, but I'll give it another try before it ends.

I got that from just the tutorial. Took a while to do the basic tasks, and everything seemed to be sparse in the big open space. From what you say, seems like the outer world doesn't change much.

I will be online this evening giving this game another go, if anyone wants to come online and do some group stuff? Will be on from 7pm until late :)

Went out last night as well and didn't get back until late. Saw you were online Melmac but didn't think you would want to play Orbus at midnight :p (ended up playing some more Lone Echo instead)

Is this any good then?
It's certainly in a alpha state, and I got hit with bugs trying to complete the tutorial (hint, if you can't move items around in your inventory, find the "stuck in combat" option and press it).

I want to try it again in a group if possible, but I think they have a lot of work to do before they can release it.

Is this any good then?
Managed to get some more time on it earlier, and my impressions of it have certainly improved. Managed to do a dungeon with a group, and it really started to shine as a co-op game. I still think they have some way to go, and it really needs some spit and polish, but I'm looking forward to seeing where they can take it now.

Is this any good then?

As Fluke said, it has a long way to go. Not sure when they plan to release it, but I would say it's at least a year from been ready. It's only a small 3 man development team working on it.

My opinion changed on it completely over the weekend. I went from not liking it to actually enjoying it immensely. It's not a hand holding MMO. You are dropped into the world, the quest givers have exclamations marks over their heads, but, that's about the only signals you get. For example, if you have a quest to find ingredients for a potion. Normal fare in an MMO and usually there would location given on your map, arrows to point the way and the quest items would be highlighted. Not here, for a start, you don't have a clue what the plants look like and you have no idea where they are.

And, like VR does to so many other games, it's so good to have a presence in the game!!

There are however lots of things to fix.
The World is empty, everything feels so open and everywhere looks the same. The players, NPC's look the same as well.
Graphics need to be a whole lot better. Actually so does the sound effects.
When you are in a fight, you don't know you are been hit, a monster could spawn behind you start attacking you and you would never realise it until too late. Our group got wiped out like that at one stage.
Inventory system needs a lot of work.
Archery has to be improved. You have to reach over your shoulder and get an arrow each time. In the heat of battle it can be annoying, so times you don't reach far enough. Sometimes the arrow doesn't line up with the bow correctly. Sometimes the action brings up the menu.
Sword and Shield - Why would anyone want to use this in the game? Every other class can do more damage, all you end up doing is trying to chase after monsters as they run after the archers/musketeers/spell casters. Not mention how buggy the hit reg with the sword is.

I know it sounds terrible when I list out the faults, but, it plays a lot better than my list would suggest. There are lots of nice features, the compass is awesome. The way of selecting different ammo and effects for your weapon is well done. The group system works well. And there is real satisfaction killing mobs, much more so than any normal MMO.

I hope they have another open weekend soon.
