Hi, Has anyone had any experience with the above?
We are due to move into our new house in 2 weeks and I am still struggling to get anything ordered for the internet and it's crucial I have it ASAP as I work from home sometimes.

I have tried both Sky & BT today again who say they cannot find the address and it's a case of waiting until Royal Mail update the system? I have seen comments on google searches where people say you can ask the developer for a code? I have done this and they don't know what i'm talking about! :/

Any experience / advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

Coincidentally in a very similar situation. My new build doesn't show up in any online checkers and whatnot. So if someone does have any answer I'd be interested too.

Although, if you work from home and it's critical, don't you have some form of access via your phone? I just tether my 3g.

waiting lists can be 3-4 weeks. if a lot of homes in your area are ready at the same time then you could be waiting 6 weeks before you are connected just so you are aware.

i'd get a temporary mi-fi

It's a nightmare!
Yeah looking at a 4g sim to tie me over in the event I don't get something sorted.

I've just spoken to BT again and they have managed to find my address but are asking me to pay for a connection charge and sign into a 12 month contract for the phone line with them, apparently they cannot do any line checks until this is done :/ ...does this sound normal?

Seems a bit of a leap of faith..

When we moved into ours the developer had been intouch with BT (back before Virgin was in our area) and they'd arranged to come and cable all the houses ready with underground ducting before the final tarmac went down on paths and roads.

Rang BT at the time and I was live at the new property before we'd finished moving in.

If yours haven't gone this route yet then sadly you could be waiting weeks.

I had this back in 2007 with a new build we bought. Unless it has changed it was a nightmare and I was running off 3g for a number of months before I could get ADSL.

This also impacted my sky box because back in the day it needed the box to be hooked up to a phone line to 'activate'.

Have Openreach actually installed the infrastructure yet - is the fibre termination box online?

Not that I am aware off, they checked the street behind me postcode and that was all setup but obviously my street could be a totally different exchange or wired different so couldn't take it as 100%.

BT mentioned that the only way to be sure is to pay £65 connection fee and they will get an engineer our to the development site & house within 3 working days, at that point they will ring me back and discuss options. Just seems a bit odd that I need to pay £65 and sign into a contract without knowing what I can get yet...

You can''t really do anything until openreach update their systems, and they can take a while. My Dad is a BT Engineer and he installed the lines on the estate I purchased my house on, even connected up to the CABs and everything, he sent the order and updates off and they sat in a queue for weeks. Even though I knew the line was there and connected it took Openreach 6 weeks to update. Meaning by time I moved in still was 2 weeks before I could order it.

Yes I think they have, the developer explained to my about the BT lines installed and what type of internet wiring has been installed, its okay for ADSL & Fibre but just not Cable.

If your mobile phone contract allows tethering, buy a few data bolt-ons and skip video streaming for a while. My new build block wasn't connected for three months because of a blockage in the ducting that took forever to clear and some residents ran up absurd bills watching Netflix via their phones (then asked BT to pay for it - laffo).

Can't seem to find much referring to if it's normal to pay the activation fee first? I've contacted the developer and they've confirmed it's all been confirmed to Royal Mail etc so the address is listed.

If your address shows up as valid according to Royal Mail then that's a good first step. You can't order a service on it yet because there's no Openreach connection at that address, and most of the checkers will only let you place an order to a 'gold' address - one that Openreach have a record of and a mapping of address to line circuit number.

You need to order a phone line and wait for that to be installed, and then the checker will start to show more normal results. Aquiss will do you a phone line with a one-month rental if you wanted to get something in place and then bounce out to another provider for the line and broadband.

Thanks, I'll have a look at Aquiss

So... everyone I've spoken to just direct me back to BT saying I have to contact them first and get the line activated and take out my packaging with them. That doesn't sound right to me? I'm hoping not as BT customer service is awful.
