Organ Donation...

Well I would personally say that a good chance of at least 20 years for a kidney just using today's medication like Tacrolimus and MMF is pretty good. And they do not kill other organs you are just making that up.

Risks of transplant include:

Blood clots (deep venous thrombosis)
Damage to the kidneys, liver, or other body organs from anti-rejection (immunosuppression) medications
Heart attack or stroke
Heart rhythm problems
Increased risk for infections due to anti-rejection (immunosuppression) medications
Wound infections

and no organ donation means deaths for hundreds. some donations last years, other people short. It's not a bad idea or a waste like you are trying to suggest.

However did anyone watch that program on medical research?
They took a rats heart and dissolved all the cells, leaving the membrane structure which acts as a scaffolding. then grew cells and put hem on. Fully working heart with patients own cells so no rejections. The idea is to use eh same technique on pig hearts. Human trials are to start soon.

iam not saying its bad, what iam saying is to find other methods.
the govenrment should open a speicalised research center on the advancement of new organs.
The future revenue would be massive.

thats the future stripping the cells and re building it.

and also the Anthony Nolan Trust register.

Never heard of it, how come they have their own register. As the NHS has their own?
Keep meaning to ask when I give blood, but keep forgetting. why don't they ever ask do you want to become a marrow donor.
How does Anthony Nolan Trust match you? do you have to go for a test somewhere?

I'm not but then I live alone so my dog will eat me to survive until somebody kicks the door in.

Anthony Nolan is the main bone marrow register in the UK, you need to give a blood sample when you sign up so that they can use it to match you with people with leukaemia or other blood disorders in the UK and elsewhere in the world.

I've been on it about 5 years now and have never had to give marrow. I hear the procedure is fairly painful

Im the same. Although I have taken a break from platelet donations at the moment as I really am too busy with my own life at the moment! I am on the Bone Marrow Registry as part of the donor service, but is the Anthony Nolan one a seperate register? I dont remember it being called that.

I'm registered for organ donation (did it on my driving license) although I have not given blood for a few years; need to get my ass in gear.

i had my first transplant call after 4 months of waiting on thursday at 2am, but the right lung was too damaged and the lungs were not viable for me, found this out at 2pm.

so, another wait :(

please sign up

you need lung transplant

What is wrong with your lungs? is it cancer or something else?

I registered last month, it's weird cos I've never really thought about it but I registered while watching a US tv show called 'Three Rivers'. Three Rivers is kind of like an american version of Casualty but the hospital is a transplant hospital. Even though the show isn't real, it just made me realise how many people are waiting out there for donors.

When I go I want my body to be cremated so they can take whatever they want out first, seems such a waste to just burn everything when it could help people.

i signed away my body when i applied for my provisional a few years back, do need to get back on schedule with my blood donations though, havent done any this year tsk tsk

I signed up years back, but now im a diabetic there’s no chance they will take any of my organs.

However I did sign up earlier this year for the brain research donation thing the Parkinson’s people were pushing on the TV. A colleague at work recently got diagnosed with Parkinson’s and as my organs cant be used to save someone directly i think research is the next best thing.

Strangely over in our US office they actually come into the office for blood donations and harang you as you walk through reception.
Again they wont take my sticky sweet diabetic blood, that and im english, and us english all have mad cow so cant donate over in the US.

You english are mad anyway :P Nah just joking, but apart from religious reasons why should you care what happens after you die, if it can give a person one more week then it's worth it!
