Origin. Is the program really that evil?

Well I don't whilst it has some benefits it also has some pretty hefty negatives. Fancy relocating abroad - wonder what will happen to your games then. Hefty presumption they'll work in another region.

I don't like the fact that some DRM laden games from digital distribution platforms force me and my kids to share the same user profile, no provision for multiple profiles unless we all have our own login and buy the game multiple times. My kids don't like it either they just play something else.

I hate the way cloud support for some games wipes your locally saved game data too. especially when we login from one of the laptops. PlantsVZombies is a good example.

Worst of all, i have always supported the games industry by buying my games, i work hard and play hard. Every time i log in to one of these DRM abominations i feel like i am being treated like a crook and not a paying customer.
As a result i don't spend near as much on games these days as i used too.

Now i have to go and check my bank statements and change another set of passwords, bloomin brilliant.

Gaming is not as much fun as it used to be imho.

yes it is

5 excutables
2 browser plugins ... yep even when u aint using origin the
plugins are still in your browser .............

Can you not run Origin in a Sandbox (Sandboxie?) or something with limited permissions? I have no clue if this is possible seeing as I've never installed Origin myself.

I read somewhere it can be done with sandboxie, whether it works though i'm not sure...

Also, i don't think sandboxie is technically a true sandbox environment. A true sandbox is very resource intensive and usually has a detrimental effect on your systems performance, I read this somewhere too(not from experience) can't find it now though.

The razor 1911 download sounds interesting but how you patch your game without origin, i'm not sure. Don't really like having to resort to such measures either.

Unless you run it with full admin privs it wont work right

Well that sounds like a steaming hunk of crap to me and I'd not trust it as far as I could throw it.

There must be a way to lockdown filesystem priveleges for that app.

No where near as bad as GFWL. Ive not had any troubles with it and it has the same EULA as Steam so no troubles there.

True. I've generally had poor experiences with EA but origin has worked ok so far apart from a few niggles. GFWL was an unmitigated disaster for me, unforgiveable really. These things absolutely must "just work" although even steam started with major problems.
