While we're on about Cosworths, are the 5dr Sapphire Cosworths the same as the 3dr mechanically?

I see a few regularly out and about locally and they're much cheaper to buy - aside from looking rubbish and being less desirable, are they poorer cars?

Would much rather an Escort personally though :)

If anything, the 2WD Sapphire is technically superior to the original 3 door. Stiffer bodyshell, better equipment, revised front end.

I've always preferred the Mk1 shape so it would be 3 door for me.

I believe that the Saphires were all 4 doors and most of them were 4wd. As I understand it, there were revisions during the cars lifetime to attempt to "improve" it. As I understand it, many think that the early rwd cars were the purest (certainly the lightest).

It's amusing now to look at some of the stats for such a revered car. My fuddy duddy grandad Volvo has wider tyres, and with a remap, can produce similar power levels to a standard Cossie.

It's like looking at the old Group B rally cars etc too; yes, they're not very powerful as standard, but you can probably take them to 600bhp+ without too much trouble.
 
Mmmm my uncle had a black Sierra Saphire Cosworth years ago in Stoke for anyone who lives there and has a good memory, it got around a bit :p It looked and sounded evil but unfortunately it wasn't looked after well inside as back then he'd give me a few quick to clean it and I'd find fag butts and loose change under the seats as well as ash and the like.
 
Never really got the ford cosworth scene, you could get Jap cars with more power for less money that didnt look anywhere near as chavish. The RS200 looked awesome though...

Definitely.
I find that motors like music take me back to Younger days, Fond memories & all that but as you get older it's nice to be able to own/insure/afford to run a motor from your olden days, Especially if its a nice example.
 
I investigated buying an escort cossie back in the day, insurance was £17,500 with a limited mileage of 5000!

needless to say that was one of the reasons I never owned an escort cosworth :p
