**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Day9 is pro.

I'm getting frustrated with this game. I spend a lot of hours watching replays, I think I'm pretty good. That being said... I'm currently bronze/silver - and don't seem to be going up any higher. I tend to only play on weekends, am I just not ranking because I don't play enough?

You can't reasonably expect to be better than someone that puts in twice as many hours as you. If you can only play weekends, maybe target gold league, but mostly just focus on improving your own game rather than worrying about leagues.

I found tha you kinda have an 'ah-hah' moment when you reach a skill threshold, when you starting doing enough things well, that you start to just win a lot of games suddenly.

You'll quickly get smacked down by the matchmaking system though ;)

But yeah, watch your replays trying and pick just 1-2 things you could change that would have altered the result. And try do it better next time you find yourself in that situation.

Even if you only play weekends, you'll find over time you're getting better and better. And you'll find you can beat those that may play more hours but employ a less reflective approach.
 
Got to play some more tonight, haven't played much recently with revision in the evenings. We're rank 1 in bronze and doing an equal amount of slapping / getting slapped by the guys in silver / gold. It's a whole different ballgame in those higher leagues. Mid and endgame comes into it a lot more.

Had my first cannon rush in a very long time today. Happily scouted the forge with nothing else around and thought "wait a minute..". Laughed out loud when i realised what was happening in my base :D

Is the best cannon rush one which completely hides the forge? seems that i scouted the forge at just the right time to put the cheese down without much trouble. If i hadnt thought to scout for cannons...couldve gone a bit differently..:(

Met a proper gimp in a 3v3 yesterday, saying he was gonna perma-ban me because i swore at him. (he was being a dick) , so I swore at him again....still waiting for my ban.

so many idiots on this game who seem to be about as mature as a 5 year old.

i wouldnt count on it, iv been top of the bronze table forever now and consistently beat silver, gold players yet i'm still here! whilst i basically see silver players drop to my league and then within a week back up to silver.

somethings not right............

I've found quite the opposite so far. People in games im in just don't talk at all other than "gl hf" and "gg" lol.. maybe i should make more conversation

Id be quite interested to know exactly how the system works. It seems a little hit & miss.
 
I'm beginning to remember how bloody competitive this game was and still is.

Last night a case in point, I just wanted a few casual games but felt a little tired so instead I took a night off because it doesn't want to risk losing. :D

I only started playing the MP side of SC2 a week ago.

I used to be addicted to the original SC MP, in fact I do believe it was the first game that ever 'forced' me to stay up until 5AM and miss school the next day (I was 15). I wasn't ever a 'geek' at school at had to keep my little addiction a secret! :o ;)

I also can't believe that was 12 years ago... !

Every game in the entire history of video games has people like this, but RTS in general have the fewest that I've seen. After playing Halo for 4 years, I'm desensitized to any sort of immaturity over a game. Halo has, by far, the highest percentage of 13 year old Americans who love nothing more than screaming down their microphone how bad you are at the game.

Maybe it's a symptom of the higher echelons of diamond league :D. I can usually have a reasonable conversation in 1v1, assuming the opponent speaks English. Had some words about the state of PvP (i.e. i haz moar collosi => i winz!!) yesterday with another protoss player.

Real problems come with conversation when you're in 2v2 with someone who can't speak your language. Had to practice my french for one match :p spent more time translating than macroing

Makes me glad i never really took online fps games seriously. CS 1.6 and CSS could be hilarious when you'd get some idiots on their microphones flaming each other :p
 
Just ordered, never really been massively into RTS's but I've heard so many good things about this game, even if I will get creamed over and over online
 
Guys, I need some help.

After building up a healthy win to loss ratio I managed to work my way up through bronze 1v1 into silver. No great shakes but a small personal achievement!

Whilst I think I've got a reasonably balanced play (micro/macro can always be better but I do build react to scouting/units) I'm now getting royally pumped. Odd thing is, when I was rank 1 bronze I would play many Gold and Platinum players and win. Now I'm 10 rank or so silver, I play mid to low rank bronze and silver players and I'm getting beaten.

If anyone cares to have a game at some point to critique then that would be greatly appreciated!
