**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Just ordered, never really been massively into RTS's but I've heard so many good things about this game, even if I will get creamed over and over online

Perseverance is the key, and learn how to play before taking the leap of faith in to online play. It may sounds like hard work but it is rewarding. :)

When you do start playing online post up your replays for others to see, good learning experience having more seasoned players critique your 'moves'.

Guys, I need some help.

After building up a healthy win to loss ratio I managed to work my way up through bronze 1v1 into silver. No great shakes but a small personal achievement!

Whilst I think I've got a reasonably balanced play (micro/macro can always be better but I do build react to scouting/units) I'm now getting royally pumped. Odd thing is, when I was rank 1 bronze I would play many Gold and Platinum players and win. Now I'm 10 rank or so silver, I play mid to low rank bronze and silver players and I'm getting beaten.

If anyone cares to have a game at some point to critique then that would be greatly appreciated!

Should be around later tonight ~1930 for some games :) (VoidPtr.167 i think).

Also, post some replays where you've lost. Watching them, people can give some good feedback and some pointers to improve your game :)

What race do you play btw?

Met a proper gimp in a 3v3 yesterday, saying he was gonna perma-ban me because i swore at him. (he was being a dick) , so I swore at him again....still waiting for my ban.

so many idiots on this game who seem to be about as mature as a 5 year old.

I had my first in-game knob over the weekend. A Russian guy who claimed to be Hitler and was going to get me banned because I Medi dropped his defenseless base. I was clearly cheating, apparently.

He didn't like it when I suggested that given he was Russian, it was more likely to be him cheating.

Cheers man. Well spotted, should've said, I'm Terran.

I'll get some replays up later.

Maybe it's a symptom of the higher echelons of diamond league :D. I can usually have a reasonable conversation in 1v1, assuming the opponent speaks English. Had some words about the state of PvP (i.e. i haz moar collosi => i winz!!) yesterday with another protoss player.

Real problems come with conversation when you're in 2v2 with someone who can't speak your language. Had to practice my french for one match :p spent more time translating than macroing

Its possible, all us diamond leaguers don't have social capabilities ^^

I've never taken the jump into public 2v2's.. is it worth it or should i just stick to organised team play?

The matchmaking system seems to have gone a bit mad recently, i've found the same when playing on a different account.

I'm always up for some games, especially against Terran players. As thats my weakest matchup at the moment.

how do you know what level your opponent is?

i have worked out how to play this game properly now and loving it. tactics wise i think i'm pretty solid just need to improve my speed (drastically).

i think i originally fell victim to thinking that once i had tech'd up i no longer need the basic units - what a mistake that was. Marines are so useful throughout the game if used correctly.

I wish there was a reminder popup for supply when you get to 90% utilisation or something.

Cheers Indie. Will add later.

Do Russians cheat more than any other nationalities in sc2? First time I hear that ;)

Yeah lower leagues have a lot of bm people the higher you go the better it gets, where I am now people don't talk at all I rarely see "gg" or "gl hf" they do sometimes reply "u2" to my gg hf though :)

Ladder system is also strange, I was matched against a person who won all his placement matches(placing him in plat league), when I was in the higher half of the diamond league.

And it seems silver are sometimes matched against diamond/plat. Over at team liquid forums there was a tread that people get promoted in waves, so if you're getting ranked against another league, in some time there will be a wave of promotion and you will be promoted too.

I always type "GL HF".

And if my harass is effective I usually type a "LOL"... because when this happens I generally, genuinely, release a guttural rumble to myself. The main reason being I can imagine the frustration on the face of the other player! :D

In fact laying down Reaper turrets against a Zerg that simply couldn't build to defend against the air and kept running off with me in chase had me in tears, to the point I could barely play. :)

Match making is weird indeed.

Been having a good day today - 7 wins from 7. Ranked about 7th in bronze with slightly better than 55% win ratio. It's getting better because after first 30 games i think it was about 10%!!

Just played a guy who has 10 wins from 27 games overall, ranked 78th in GOLD league and i beat him fairly easily. Match making system says teams "EVEN" ??? 10 points to me!! very strange!

Oh another thing as a newb to SC2 I've found helpful is playing against the AI, not for battle tactics but for build orders, getting shortcuts working fluidly and testing harassments etc.

Another thing I've done is create an excel sheet with shortcut keys and my build order and time frames, I stick that on one monitor so I can see it whilst I play.

My build order started with about 20 points, now it branches out to about 50-60 depending on my preference for offensive/defensive/mix, air/ground/mix etc.

This has definitely helped me managed my early (sub 8 minute) harass whilst still producing support units and building at main base.

I just played against a silver level player who tried to proxy command centre rush me???? LOL :p

EDIT - Here's the replay for the luls.

That's interesting as I played a 2 v 2 earlier and both the oppositions were terran and tried the exact same tactics - initially i was like WTF??? when these 2 command centres appear above my base!:eek:

took them out eventually but initially it was a bit of a shock!!

replay for those interested in a bizzarre tactic!

I think you got the wrong replay there. :p

The thing with the guy I played against, he didn't even turn it in to a planetary fortress or even float the command centre above my base. He just trained a few workers and then took off his only command centre and planted it in my natural. That was it. :o
