**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Loving this game, but I'm finding it quite intimidating. Having never played the first one, I find even basic tutorials are written in another language!

Also, I cannot seem to make myself use hotkeys. I set up control groups but just stop using them after a minute or two  Fortunately, I'm very quick on the mouse from years playing "twitch shooters" like Quake, but I know it's still costing me valuable time. I just CANNOT find a way to stop myself though :p

IIRC there's a challenge that forces you to use macro keys..no mouse for stuff you can macro. That is one helluva good way to do it.

Without hotkeys for your army you can still get to at least plat in the ladder, but you will need to get used to them to advance much further.

theres a great set of tuts over on teamliquid at the mo that really enforce suv production, apm and timed pushes. well worth a watch to anyone new or old.

made me think about apm a lot more to raise my blizz profile for a better chance to get into higher leagues.

I had a similar issue when I started out, I did play SC1 many years ago but havn't really touched a strategy game since, play through some of the campaign, watch some of day9s basics of starcraft videos and play custom games against the AI, pick a tactic and stick to it for a while, and before you head into the 1v1 ladders play some 3 v3 or 4v4.

Did anyone watch Dreamhack yesterday? MC flippin protoss god. Cant wait for TLS this weekend.

Sorry, but I disagree. That final was goddamn boring.Even before that Idra played like a doped up chimp and placed his broodlords like an ass. Idra may have deserved to lose, but White-ra IMO didn't.

Of course the final was boring, it was PvP

Late game it is really hard to beat a good protoss player. And on some maps there arent as easy to harrass either. End of the day, the best player on the day wins.

Personally, (this coming from a noob mind you) I don't reckon imbalances make a difference below pro-level. If I lost, I instinctively know what I did wrong - the other dude played better. Even at pro level, Idra's game was solid there, but he engaged at the wrong time in the wrong way I think, leading to him lose to MC and subsequently rage.

Noob question for y'all. Are there any units/upgrades that are useless? Ones that good players never bother with? I'm talking about all races.

A lot of people don't bother with high templars, ultralisks, archons and motherships :)

There is nothing more satisfying than throwing your mid-game army into a terran and then reinforcing with ultralisks :D.

There are units which are less common than others, but it doesn't necessarily mean you should actively avoid them. Part of the fun of starcraft is seeing how you can get some odd unit into your normal build :).
