**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

oh dear, anyway i sent him a message afterwards simply telling him that he sucked and I practically gave him a free scout and TOLD HIM when i would attack yet he still built the wrong units to counter....that my friends is how to fail hard.

You have no class.

I responded to his scout by saying "you better start biulding im coming in 2 minutes" -

no response

2 minutes pass and i go and have a look with my VR's he had only just got a spire up, wtf spire i thought? he knew i was coming yet built a spire that takes forever to build and produce from....hmm ok

He probably just wanted to play "his own game", your the enemy, he's not gonna respond to what you say your gonna do. If he'd have spent two minutes building units he'd have had no chance after that because zerg needs to macro more than prepare for a possible void ray attack.

It's "one of those things", he could have had a number of strategies prepared but just didn't get them done as fast he hoped to, or he could still be figuring the game out and going for mass mutas say.

Either way, he was wrong to rage "VR noob", but I also think you was wrong to continue afterwards.

The only time ill react to rage is ingame and just reply 'you mad?' then go for the 'cool story bro' etc... If they message me after, i just block them.

:(:(

Just going thru one of those phases of losing ever 2 out of 3 games!!

Just not played for a while and my timing is off - not sticking to the builds I know and generally having a nightmare!

I will be back (to my high standard of bronze) but at the moment I'm playing rubbish!:o

I'm always happy for a game. Ranked silver 1v1. Build orders not too good so could use some easy going practice?

Add me welshdragon.729, should be on in about 5 mins

I only play at weekends, and it takes me most of Friday evening before I get my timings and build orders working properly again. Skills rust so fast on this game.

Is it bad that when I saw your name on the post I thought I had posted but couldn't remember? :(

Not always. It's pretty easy if you can get the scout off. ZvP: Get roaches+spine crawlers to defend an early expo. TvP: Get 2-3 bunkers and bring your sports utility vehicles to repair :p.

PvP though can be a bit of an issue on maps with large ramps. If you have a defensible ramp, then 3 gate with sentry defense should have you sorted, assuming they dont have a proxy pylon in your main (although even then i managed to hold that off *somehow*. I think my opponent's warp gate tech was a few seconds late which gave me the upper hand. Plus probes hard-counter stalkers when surrounded :D).

a well executed 4gate isn't that easy to stop though... The opponent can have 4 gates ready to warp in with enough gas for 3 stalkers at 5:15, so unless if you know it's coming, it's not that simple - certainly at lower levels (i.e. bronze - mid gold), very few players know how to hold it off, and the protoss sentry on ramp trick doesn't work if the opponent places a pylon near the ramp and has stalkers at the bottom as he can warp in zealots on the ramp to push the sentries back and provide sight for the stalkers to shoot up.

Oh yea of course. If it were as simple as that then nobody would 4 gate any more :D.

There's always some tension there, but it's doable is what i'm getting at. I **** my pants whenever I see a protoss saving up energy before the cyber core (every single PvP and ZvP, and occasionally in TvP) :p.

But it shouldnt be written off by any player as an inevitable loss :)

He raged a bit in game, you were the one to message him after the game to BM further rather than being the better man and ignoring him and not rising to it. Assuming your age is correct in your profile, try acting it.

I think you might be getting worked up by the fact that I said he sucked....I didn't actually say that to him although he did.

You have no class.

Yeh thanks for that...because your clearly the better man.

i watched. the opponents were horrible to say the least.
OK:

1) when walling off you went pylon, gate, pylon, core all at the front ramp, you should put the pylon further back and just use the gate and core to wall - all it takes is a little push and they can take out both pylons and youv lost a gate and core.

2) 20secs wasted to start warp tech

3)NO SENTRYS! wtf - this is one of the biggest crimes in this game. not once did you build a sentry! do you know what a forcefield is? hellucination? <__ serious question/

4) supply blocked several times

5) 1st push and tanks. Tanks you say? my stalker heavy units can take those hits anyday........end result zero units. the moment you hear the shelling you should pull back you just carried on running in.

6) much like sentries you seem to hate zealots aswell. think i only saw 4 the whole game. zealots are great tanks they soak up the hits and let your other units survive longer.

7)18mins in, only started researching level 1 weapons...

8)1 forge and you had 1500 mins and 1000 gas in the bank....get 3 forges and do research on all of them.

9) late game when your not mineral starved you should be looking at putting pylons around the whole map. you didnt proxy once and all your pylons were at your base

10) no unit group controls. well there was one for 20 stalkers when you had voids and other units in the game aswell.must have been a pain to select them all the time.

but yeh all in all pretty good, get used to sentries and zealots more, get forges, start tech earlier (much earlier), and play around with hullicination. :)

Another thing, unless if you are only ever going to play team games, show a replay of you playing 1v1 as this is where your weaknesses will really show as you don't have any team mates to protect you and absorb attacks near the start. Preferably, show a replay of you losing as well - especially if you feel that you didn't do anything majorly wrong.

Zerg help please.

90% of my losses are to cannon rushes or 6 pools (and occasionally 10 pools too). And it really spoils the game for me.

I'm scouting with a drone and sending an overlord out too, but by the time the drone gets there (especially on the maps with 4 possible starting locations), and see's the forge or pool, it's already too late for me.

I use the old 14 pool, 15 expansion etc. If I see a forge or pool down, (or building), I start my pool, but sometimes I have to wait for resources because I've been concentrating on drones. Either way, generally speaking, they started before me, and they're gonna get their offenses up or on there way to my base before I can get any zerglings of my own. Sometimes I may get a few out but it's just a numbers game then, and I'm done for. And against Toss, drones don't seem to make any damage at all to pylons or cannons being warped in.

Any advice?

Note, I don't think I'm a bad player, if I can get to 6 mins then I tend to own the map then. If i'm harrassed early on I can usually defend it well, it's just cheese that seems to really murder my game.

Cheers all.

Would getting an early spine crawler help against cannon rushes? If not check out some of spanishiwa's replays, he has an interesting Zerg style. :)

Also, what sort of time to most people on here play? I wouldn't mind a few more 2v2's or 4v4's, so I'll try and join the chat channel when there are some people there...

I hear ya. I've lost my first 10-11 games :(

Was there one thing you learned that got you the win in the end? Or was it just a case of slowly getting better?

i lost my first 15-20.

i was quite naive when i started having played rts on and off for years but never multiplayer. played the first few missions but really i bought it for the multiplayer having heard it was awesome so jumped in eyes shut.

anyway i started winning after i learnt 3 things.

1 - constant worker production is vital even in bronze (for the start of the game anyway). You might think you're doing it...but you're not.

2 - couple of solid easy build orders

3 - what units beat what (Roughly). I play Terran and i couldnt even name half of Z/P units until about 100 games. Took me ages to work out Roaches and Hydras were different bugs!

now i look back i was basically lazy and didn't want to put the time in learning the game. I think it comes from play lots of FPS where you generally get better simply by playing more and learning maps. This is not true of Starcraft - you have to learn and research the game mechanics if you really want to get good. Luckily Day9 makes that pretty fun!

What league are you in? Just do something basic v Protoss like 14 gas 14 pool. If you suspect a cannon rush my rule of thumb is:

2 dones per probe
and about 4 to 8 drones for pylons etcc then wait for zerglings.

V 6 pool, soon as you scout it just get pool down asap but drones can put up a decent fight in the open if you surround.

Im not sure about the old 14pool 15hatch. Either 14gas 14pool or a 15hatch is better in my experience
