**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Why not do some 2v2 with a friend or something? It's not stressful at all really and can still have fun.

Yeah, I do dabble in that occasionally. In diamond in a couple of 3v3 and 2v2 arranged teams. I feel much less annoyed with myself if I lose team games :). Should probably have said in my post I was talking about 1v1 mainly.

Most of the time I prefer either games which have an awesome atmosphere or story, such as Dead Space of Mass Effect for singleplayer, or fast paced no brains instant gratification games like CoD for multiplayer. If a game requires much thinking, like SC2 does, I like it to be slow so I don't feel so pressured.

Not that I've anything against SC2, I really enjoyed aspects of it and the pro scene is awesome. i just don't think it's for me. Too serious/competetive.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yep, I'm seriously competitive once i get going and got into plat pretty quickly, was fighting diamond players all the time. Stopped playing for a while and i just don't want to play again because i know i have lost my edge.

Whenever i lose i would actually get pretty wound up, and I'm a really mellow guy. I guess I'm just too competitive at it and unless i was motivated to be pro i don't have enough time to balance all the games and remain good at starcraft :)

I never made it above Gold league, but I still watch a lot of games.

I don't have enough hours in the day in order to become high level, so I only play for fun, if I lose I don't really care now as I lose quite a lot no matter what I do. :) It is nice to occasionally beat someone in a league above you however, even if it rarely happens.

Got placed in gold last night playing zerg after 6 months off. Won my first 2 games then left the next 3 placements on purpose when the game loaded. Hopefully get some decent practice before i move up the leagues again :). My aim is to try and do 5games a day, should hopefully be a decent way to improve gradually.

Had to search around to find out what exactly you were talking about there! Eventually found this post:

For those of you who don't know, in the Blizzard Cup Naniwa was down 0-3 in his group and set to play against Nestea who was also 0-3 in the group. Neither one of them could advance in the tournament so the game was essentially meaningless to their overall results in the tournament.

Naniwa responded by a-moving his probes and taking his hands off the keyboard/mouse.

If that's the case, then yes, I think he should have been kicked out. Just because neither player gains anything, you don't do that in a televised/broadcasted match. Even if its pointless, there's a paying audience who want to see a game, as a pro gamer its your job to entertain them. At the very least he could have made some kind of game out of it, even if he just cannon rushed or some other kind of cheese.

Of course, if there should even be such pointless games in the tournament as there is no big incentive to play well is a different argument altogether.

Never played SC1 here so whats the learning curve like on SC2?

Steeper than most games, and also you're pretty much never gonna master certain things. Even the pros miss a lot of timings and micro etc etc.

You'll get the basics reasonably fast, and the campaign is great for that, but the multiplayer can be frustrating if you don't have the time, or the correct approach, to advance beyond the "beginner" level.

Having said that, it's a great game and if it's your cup of tea, then you'll enjoy it enough that the time spend watching youtube vids and learning builds will be something you want to do, not a chore. And SC2 has lots of other stuff to do (campaign, challenges, custom games, skirmish matches) even if the multiplayer ladder isn't to your taste.

So it's worth getting IMHO.

The game might have a big learning curve but Blizzard have done a very good job at helping beginners learn the game. Whether its through the campaign, challenges or even the 50 practice games you get at the start before you even think about joining the ladder system as a beginners you get a good general idea on what you should be doing.

Sorry should have been more specific. There is endless drama on the TL forums: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=294713

I'm glad he was kicked due to his bm but GOM needs to re-word it's rule book. The current rule they used to ban him could ban many a player. "During a match, a player shall not offend the opponent or audience with abusive behaviours"

No its a ****ing game, and many people on TL are real spotty geeks that are barely out of school and want to travel to korea bc they believe they are pro and will drop school because of it etc etc - so when incidents like this happen they use their two year old brain to communicate utter nonsense.

TL forums are trash and badly moderated to boot.

and GSL is a waste of space , as shown by all but one of their finals.

Well I have been demoted to Bronze! Best games I've had in a while, fair play. This happened last time I played protoss......

Having a punt with zerg and so far loving it.

I find Zerg's a lot of fun, especially compared to protoss. Gotta love the feel mobility gives you in map control :D

No scratch that, gotta love having mobility at all! :p
