**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Got my copy this morning but can't install it until tomorrow.

It requested internet connection so might block it on firewall and see if it works. I very much doubt it will be that rudimentary though.

Guys I didn't play the beta because I didn't like SC1 so here's my question, how far along has it come from the first game? you see (please don't flame me for being honest) the thing I hated about SC1 was that I was a big Total Annihilation fan and by comparison SC1 had small maps, simplistic game play and hardly any units.

At the moment im playing Supreme Commander with the expansion pack and loving it, I don't like single player campaigns im only interested in me vs cpu skirmish games and multi player. So you think it will appeal to me? or will I find it just like the first game with better graphics?

Thanks

It's basically the same. There are still 13-15 units per race and a 200 food cap.

I have my copy at home thanks to gameplay!!

But I can't play it til tonight :( oh well at least my miss will happy I can see her :) Just won't tell her I can't play it and I'd rather see her hehehehe

All well and good till you go all pumpkin on her at 11.30 when the servers go live for you to play.

Now that the game is about to be released, I want to play! Don't get home to the UK til the weekend though :(. Might have to order it for when I arrive. Thinking of getting it through Play. Still waiting on the reviews too.

Dont mistake simplistic with balanced. I always thought that one of the reasons thousands of people still play SC1 and there are still tournaments is because all the factions are balanced. Dawn of war was an amazing game in my opinion but it wasnt balanced that well.

It's not as if it's free gold dust, you'll be able to get a copy (that is if you live in London your chances might be slimmer).

Never pre-ordered where I love and they've had bucketloads in stock.

edit - just looked at your local, try a supermarket at midnight?

Yea, its my location which is a problem, the only places i can get too in the week are the major outlets on Oxford st, which are pretty much constantly busy.

Think I'll just use the blizzard digital purchase, although it does not seem to state a price anywhere!

the game does look nice, but aint it just another c and c game, with the only diff that blizzard wrote it ?

That's like saying Call of Duty is just another Doom game that Infinity Ward made.

The games share similar mechanics but they are completely different games.

Went up Game earlier see about ordering it, He wouldnt let me have it early so noooow ive got to go for another walk there tomorrow morning, The manager also claimed that he doesnt even know how much it will cost!

Will probably depend on demand

I will probably buy it from Game when I get back home this weekend - will probably be a stupid price though

Edit: Actually, if I buy it here in the US, will it work in the UK?

I'd say actually that being in London is a plus and not the other way.
The HMV at oxford street holds all major releases and they always have loads of stock at the release date.

BUT, beware, if it's gonna be anything like the WoW TBC release I was at, make sure you come and stand in the queue ¬4-5hrs before release and that's not because they will run out of stock but because if you stand anywhere near the end of it by coming late, you probably won't get a copy for the next 10hrs ( on WoW TBC release, they started sales at 12 midnight, I was fairly around midway/start of the queue and it still took me untill around 5am to get my copy ( yes that's 5hrs in the que, with all cashiers up and running ! ) and even then I've seen around same amount of people behind me that I had infront of me, meaning the last ones to get their copies were probably around 8-10am.

Also you'll more likely pay a slight premium ( ie 39,99 instead of 34.99 ) for being one of the first to pick up the game ( the premiere in shop gets you game before pre orders, pre orders are shipped same day but you gotta wait 1-2 days for post so by coming to premiere you get your game 1-2days earlier or more depending on post ).

Regarding the digital copy, I think that on the first week the servers will be so rammed that they'll either crash or take 3days to DL ( or week waiting in the queue for DL ).

Yeah it'll be fine. As far as I know, the product key isn't region specific. As long as your battle.net account is EU (i.e created on eu.battle.net) and you download the EU client when you get back (don't install from the disc), you should be fine.

You're ordering from the wrong place if your having to wait 1-2 days after the release date to get your game.

I always order online and more often than not the game arrives 1-2 days early or at the very worst on the actual day of release - no having to wait in line until 5 in the morning! :p (and it's cheaper too ;))

Went in to my independent game shop today and they had 7 of the CEs in stock.

They wouldn't let them go early which is never the case here.

Looking at getting a CE tomorrow. It looked epic in the flesh, he got all the bits out and let me have a proper look! I'm sold!
