**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Would anyone be interested in watching me play SC2 via stream? :p

It could be a good way for me to improve actually if I can get real time comments about what I did wrong, and watching streams in general is fun. I used to stream TF2 but I haven't in a while since stream TF2 was a pain to keep lag free.

Cool dude. I'm off to work now for late shift but I'll check on the thread on my ipod every now and again :)

It really is a bad game though :p. My macro did a nose dive..straight down the toilet hahaha!

hahah i Enjoyed that quite a lot, especially the rage at the end ^^

and the kisses gorgeous ^^

Well, not much you could have done really, you countered everything he threw at you..

The only thing i can say is harass more, scout earlier.

combine thors with hellions and a few marines/marauders

More factories/rax!

thats about it, you seem to have quite a good understanding! and he was just pure lolz ^^

I just tried a fast expand, low tech strat that Day[9] suggested in one of his recent dailys and once I get my third base, I can't spend my money fast enough! I still beat my opponent quite easily but I really should have done better with that many minerals (I think I had about 3000 at some point!). :o I should have had more really too had I kept up with building probes. So what I found out tonight is I need to get much faster with my keyboard, get better at multi-tasking and start building observers (he slowly took out one of my bases with cloaked units with me helpless to do anything). :( Not too much to do then really!

I might just skip the rest of my practise games just so I can get used to having more open bases early game and so I'm able to scout a bit earlier. I just know I'm going to be in for an arse kicking though! :o

Meh, so what? You'll also improve a million times faster when you're out of the practise league. Don't be scared, tis only a game :)

I sat down last night determined to get better at this. I've had the game a while but sadly havent had as much time as I would have liked to play it.

I played my first 5 games yday and man I got murdered. I won 1 out of 5. The only reason I won 1 game was because the guy quit. I think he got bored of me constantly defending his attacks :p

So anyways last night I sat there for about 1.5hrs playing against the AI on very easy memorising all the hot keys :p I have to say it really REALLY does make things a hell of a lot quicker and smoother with the hotkeys.

That said I have only memoriesd the keys for MMM and the structures. So I will need to expand on that. Tonight I am deffo going to get cracking online (currently 87th in bronze) and see if I can rack up some wins. Then I can develop my tactics and scouting.

Add stim and combat shield, maybe an engineering bay if you're feeling frisky and really, you don't need anything else until you're in top tier diamond :)

^^87th in bronze eek, i would say hotkeys help but it seems that you probs need to spend more time on unit composition, build orders.

good thing about losing/winning is that you can pretty much have 5 loses and 1 win and still make ground. its just annoying losing.

had my lamest game ever yesterday against some ragu/rogo guy T v P, he went 4 gate proxy that was obvious from a mile off but even scouting it out and trying to stop it didnt really help, so anyway we both effectively base traded and i flew my base away and destroyed his nexus but he still had 3 stalkers - ending in stalemate where he even admitted that he lost but was basically being stubborn and just went afk, i went afk whilst making dinner and then thought **** this ***** if he only plays for cheap wins then he can have it and DC.

Christ if your gonna 4 gate proxy and end up getting everything wiped out you cant exactly complain when a terran flys his base away.

in short he was a w***er - so heads up if anyone ever plays him as id expect this wasnt the first time hes done that.

Whoop Whoop

Just got an email at work. StarCraft patch 1.1 will include full support for Nvidia 3D Vision. This will seriously look the business

From a beginner level, I found this video of great help http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/3732340/. He's a well respected player so you know it's good stuff.

It's quite long, but the key points are:

  • Absolute speed isn't as important as you think it is to begin with.
  • Have a plan and stick to it (i.e. build lots of marines. That simple).
  • Keep money low (below 500).
  • Just simply remember what to do to execute your plan and don't get supply blocked.
  • Do the above with the help of a mental checklist (i.e. check your money, build scvs, check minimap, train marine, check money etc).
  • Don't worry about specific build orders and specific unit counters yet. That will come with time. Just try and keep your money low.
  • Good timing is what makes a good player (I'd say this is a more 'advanced' thing to think about though).

I've won most of my games so far with just that and have managed to overpower my opponents just with the sheer number of my forces because I've just been able to remember what to do. This somewhat falls apart for me after about 8 minutes as the game gets too much for me, but I'm a beginner too, so there you go. :p

Heh, if it was me I would just leave it running while minimised, and enjoy the gaming moments of another title :)

I'm currently 10th in the Gold League and it looks like I will be in Gold for a long long time.I am only playing against Gold/Silver players and it is always even,so I guess I won't be getting a promotion soon.My wins are still more than my losses (143-133)but I guess this is where I belong at the moment.

Yea I think use of the hotkeys has helped though. One of the problems I had was I would be ammassing loads of resources and getting distracted by other events. As such I would not build any SCVs or marines or anything.

I would make a army send them out to attack and well that would be it. I would then watch the army go in for the attack in an attempt to micro it. But in the mean time I would have no production of new units. So I would lose nearly minuites if not more where I just would not build anything new. So if my army that attacked got destroyed. I would then panic try and build a new mass of units. But of course at that point its far to late and leaves me completely open for a counter.

Learning the hotkeys has made more confident at multi-tasking. As such building units while scouting is easier, which was a huge problem for me. Creating expansion bases has also sped up and imo easier.

I'm deffo going to a good session tonight of some online play and try and improve.

Thanks for the video link tho Mailman86. I will give that a watch when I get home :)

Any other zerg player find they have an influx of minerals in the mid game? I often find myself going speed lings > muta, around the 20-25 muta mark I find myself still having to pump lings due to lack of gas, I'm usually at 3 bases at this time also.

I have good enough macro to have the extractors up and being mined as soon as the hive is done, but its still its not enough to be able to continuously pump muta's or tech to anything else (ultra) without having a gap in unit production.
