**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

anyone have some tips for the level with the fire moving across the map on brutal? gettin stuck :(

That was probably the one i had most trouble with on brutal.

I remember just constantly building banshees, with a couple vikings, while just bouncing between bases. Also I found that Science Vessels are amazingly helpful on this map if you have them as they keep your banshees in good condition. Don't forget you can build upgrades for your air units. You can't lift armouries, but you have time to build the upgrades if you build a few armouries as you move.

Combine this with a smaller ground support army (medic/marine/siege tank?) and you'll have a great force to take on the main base.

One final thing is to be ready with your scans from command centres. Or at least have your raven/science vessels handy. Observers are a pain in the backside when you want to use your banshees but there are scouts about.
Scan/move detector in -> push with vikings/marines -> finish off observer -> cloak -> win!

OMFG if I have one more game where my "team" dont speak to each other and all just do their own thing and when asked what we should do say "win" I may stab myself in the eyeball with a thousand cocktail sticks!

need to get back on some 2v2s  you around for some games later today?

Well i had a nightmare of an evening last night on SC.
constantly building Hydras against colosi
building mass mutaling vs thor/hellion

god knows what was going on last night.

Lets hope this weekend away shall prove to be useful!

You've just described pretty much every game I've ever had. I live your nightmare!

Are there any decent tower defense games for starcraft 2? My buddy mentioned something called defend the moon but i cant find a download for the map

^ well you dont need to find an external link, just select custom games, in custom games ;) There are a few ok ones, but i havent found any that are amazing yet.

Mmm me and Alex had some pvt games, me playing Terran. Pretty interesting (for me learning, anyway).

Alex wins all three, but I amazed him with a unique double factory build in the second game... =]

That first game's got some really good moments in it. I think if you'd made a push into my base when you had the centre it couldve gone very differently.

Thanks for the replys - but i still don't really understand the scoring mechanism in the ladder.

So every time I win - some points get taken out of my bonus pool and added to my ladder total? Seems like I have a hell of a lot of points in their?!

Yea, the bonus pool acts as a sort of 'make up' points pool. So when you spend some time away from SC2, you'll automatically get points added to this pool. This means you're not punished for spending a weekend away and not playing starcraft or something.

When you're playing games, if you win then it'll add points not only from winning the game, but also from your bonus pool. This therefore makes up for the 'time not spent playing SC2'.

The bonus pool is capped though. Can't remember exactly what the cap is..

while i'm glad they're doing work with patches and stuff, I can't help but feel they're looking too much at their own forums and listening to the bronze players (no offense) cry about 2 gate rushes, etc. I mean the zealot nerf is really unwarranted. Also they haven't even touched marauders which (imo) are the most imbalanced unit in the game.

I regularly see posts on the bnet forums like "OMG NERF ZERG THEY CAN MAKE LOTS OF ZERGLIGNSS!!!10111011"

And I think to myself (no not 'what a wonderful world' :P) why on Earth would you want to nerf the weakest race in the game right now. I mean theres no beating the fact that in all major tournaments right now, there are max 2-3 zergs in the final stages, max 5-6 protoss, and about 10-12 terrans. Now i'm not criticising blizzard, I mean, Brood War wasn't balanced for a few years....buuuut, with brood war blizz didn't realise how successful a series it was actually going to become. When it totally took off in Korea after brood war, they quickly put more effort into balancing it, and now they realise how the same is happening for starcraft 2 I would hope patch 1.2 comes along very soon.

Well they can't look at ladder rankings because of the system it uses, they should look at tournament games and results more though for sure. Like in the EU TL open yesterday, only Terran in semifinals.

I think you're right. Stimmed marauders give me a headache before I can throw down 10 storms on top of them. A small nerf would probably make terran a really good and well balanced race.

It's not like the marauder's their only unit either. They have plenty of powerful units, but I rarely feel (as protoss at least) that I have no way to defeat them if I scout and play well.

I dont think marauders are hugely imbalanced, but subtle changes would make it perfect.

On TvZ, I think it's the same sort of thing. It's not a huge imbalance, so small changes (such as the tank damage reduction) will improve the matchup immensely.

As for Zealots, I recently played some horrifying 1v1 pvp games with an OcUK'er using constant inbase zealot warpins while more zealots break down the front. It's ok once you have enough sentries and stalkers, but there's definitely a timing window there that needs to be addressed imo. I havent really had trouble in ZvP with zealot rushes, but most Protoss players I play (even diamonds :() seem to want to cheese their way to victory with easily dealt with cannon rushes.
