**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Usually if it's mid/late game i have three cannons in a triangle around my nexus.

Only 3? As Terran I build 4/5 turrets behind the gems blocking the gaps, then 2/4 between my refineries + cc.

With only 3 cannons, if one is picked off (a handful of banshees) the other 2 are usually out of range then bye bye eco

the 3 canons arent really there to stop attacks, their there to buy you time to get your units over there.

EDIT: as Terran all you really need is 4 turrets and your PF and the expo is nigh untouchable.

Nah voids munch through turrets.

Of course they do, but that gives you time to get your units there... the point in stationary defence isnt to kill off all attacks.. sure they do some damage sometimes but its mainly so the enemy have to spend time destroying them before they can do any real damage.

Um wow, I just got cheesed by a reaper rush, with 4 marines getting owned by 1 reaper.

1 reaper should never beat 4 marines.

Simple micro will win you that fight. Pull back the marine that the reaper takes a shot at. If he's not paying attention the reaper will follow that marine and won't be shooting, while your other 3 marines are shooting it. Reapers die quickly so you only need to do this with 1 marine.

I know, it wasn't even as if I needed to do anything. For some odd reason he flew his reaper in by my wall which included my barracks, had 3 marines out and one popped whilst he was killing the other 3 marines. Surely 3 marines gunning him at once should have killed him..?

2 marines can kill a reaper. 3 should destroy!.. maybe the unit pathing went a bit wrong when you wernt looking or something? its happened to me a few times with my Zerglings.

Having a bit of trouble in ZvZ, around 1000pt games, the usual ling/bling fest is fine, but my opponent always seems to be able to get to muta before me. Once he has 6-8 muta out its really hard to expand / keep expand up, while they expand at will and eventually overrun you.

Well i guess this it what it feels like to have muta/ling used against T/P

Anyone know some good ZvZ replays?

No I will not 6pool :p

1000pt in what league?

My normal method tends to be slings/bling, and the game normally ends at that really. If not i transition into an expo with late lair, and spores if they muta... It tends just to be a copy fest to be hoenst, like most mirror matchups, its more about your basic macro/micro abilities.

Main thing is scouting really. if you see them pop a lair before they expand then their probs gonna go for fast mutas, in which case just wack up your ling count and over-run/expand/spore

should they get muta before you, spore yoruself up and tech to hydras. Keep their harassment to a minimum and push for your expansion. keep a few blings with your hydras incase they ling switch.

A play i quite favour is the use of infestors, their quite easy to get once you have your lair up, and it shuts down most of the standard ZvZ builds. They really make the difference in a standard Hydra+Roach mixed army. Destroys pretty much everything.
sling/bling
Hydra/Roach
Muta/ling/bling

1 infestor, althoguh quite gas heavy, you'll be missing between 1-3 units in place of it, but hitting a FG on their whole army is rather deadly ;)

How long does it take to go from Bronze to Silver? I've been 1st for a while now (and won games).

i guess just keep playing, you sould be getting paired off against gold/platinum players i'd assume, once you have some good games against those then i reckon you'll get promoted

Just keep playing as much as you can and you'll get there.

The promotion is strange. I think it gets triggered when you beat a slightly favoured opponent. Couple nights ago I lost two games to evenly-skilled opponents then I got matched against a slightly favoured opponent, beat him and got promoted. The points gained did exceed the amount I lost so it could just be a points thing, I really dunno. I was ranked 1st in silver for AGES and was getting matched against "even" platinum players so the whole thing is just generally weird.

Is there a beginners guide to Zerg out there?

SC1 Macro/Micro/Builds is only getting me so far.
On this note, are there are particularly good zerg guides? I'd really love to give them a go, but the normal guides I come across don't really explain the basics, and I know nothing at all about zerg :p.

Eg, build orders with what units are built, but why as well. Some I see just go through the standard build order and don't actually explain them.

i honestly can't think of any written guides.. im sure theres some youtube links around here somewhere. I've never used any guides, only ever watched 3-4 replays of pro Zergs and i seem to be doing alright i suppose. 1100 Diamond rank... although not playing that well at the moment.

If theres any info you need then ask away, i can provide build orders and explain them if you wish.. can practise different builds with you if you wanna try things out, im normally free most nights during the week. just poke me online :)
