**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Well I'm finally top 20 in bronze now after some 81 games (43 wins, 38 losses). :D

Still find Protoss a pretty hard opponent to beat unless I push early and keep up the pressure. I play Terran.

I find an early marine/tank combo followed up with a ghost will really push the pressure on the toss.. just what i've found at least! probs low diamond level Terran.

When I played terran I really like doing 2 rax marine/maurader and 2 port banshees. Was a great little strat :)

Have just come across this, really eye opening for an SC2 newbie like myself (although the vid onlys shows SC1 footage)

APM Explained

APM isn't as important as everyone makes out until your mid/high diamond really. To be fair, you don't really need more than 60/100 APM to play sc2. But it all comes with practice.

yep thats pretty viable too :) quite nice.

also, mid-late, i find the most fun strat to do is banshee with a couple of vikings thrown in. obviously get cloak.. and any observers, just scan and 2-3 vikings take them out from range :D.. so much funnn!

Have any SC2 RPGs been released yet? I remember WC2 came with a pretty cool RPG where you chose what character you wanted too play and then worked through this massive dungeon - was pretty awesome.

not that i know of... there are some RPG style custom maps you can play but nothing standalone.

They did start making a Starcraft FPS but dropped it unfortunatly. Was going to be based on Nova (character you'll come accross in the story mode). called Starcraft:Ghost

I'd agree with this. 60-80 apm is fine up until ~2000 diamond.

And even above there naturally you'll end up around 100-150 just by virtue of knowing your builds, and having played the game so much.

My APM sucks, about 40 and I'm in high Gold :o Then again, I play random and can't play as much as I'd like so I'm not as efficient with each race but rather just 'pretty good' all around.

I think since i stopped 'watching' my battles, my sustained apm has gone up by about 20 or so.

Also, if you really want to work on your multitasking (as opposed to just glamour apm), worker harass with your early scout is the best practice. Being able to worker harass and manage your opening build sets you up well for mid game multitasking.

Yep, psychological damage/distraction(i.e. if you can keep a level head whilst those around you can't...) quite invaluable. Definitely want to improve my actual mutli-tasking, not at all interested in the number by itself as some are.

Gonna really work on things in December, as I'll have nearly 6 weeks off work

Had a similar thing happen myself. In a 'good' match where I need to do more than just 1a -> win, I'll natually peak around 100-120. If I dont replenish units and continue expanding economy/building pylons/upgrading/etcetcetcetc then I just end up way behind.

As I play more I do still feel like I could be doing more though. Need to try to play faster to take on these 1800 zergies i keep losing to :D

Anyone else find that Bnet is really slow most of the time, in terms of loading peoples profiles / ladders.. though in-game it is fine. Quite annoying when checking just how low my opponent who just cheesed me is!

I don't know what this game is all about, but it must be good if people have put seven-thousand posts up on this thread! This really is the biggest thread I've seen in my lifetime!

Yeah it's pretty annoying. On the flipside when I play custom games I don't get people quitting out as soon as they see my profile.

I've been playing Warcraft 3 a lot recently online and the community seems to only like dota and is full of hosting bots all hosting the same maps, so I need an upgrade.

I've never played Starcraft and I was wondering if it's a lot like Warcraft 3. Mainly I like playing tower defence or hero defence maps online, is there a lot of this on the game?
