**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Maybe broken is a little extreme, but it most definitely favours Protoss. Stuff like 4gate is so much easier to execute than it is to defend, and late game Protoss is so incredibly difficult to stop. It's so easy to make a small mistake against Protss and lose the match.

Just watch any of the Master League/Pros streaming and see how much harder they have to work than the Toss to win.
Yehh but that's sort of part of the deal when you sign up for Zerg; in general you have to be doing a ton more things than the other civs (which oddly is why I like to play them). But yeh I know what you mean how if you let P build up at all, they become exponentially more difficuilt to deal with.

i don't think that's a good way of looking at things. first off, small mistakes can cost you the game as any race, it's just the nature of starcraft. and to say top level zergs have to work much harder than toss to win is also a dangerous way of looking at things. how can you possibly say how hard they were working? you were watching from a zerg point of view i assume, so how could it be objective? considering how minor the imbalances, if any, are in thie game, it is only really at the very top level where everything else is near on perfect that they make a big difference.

Generally in these discussions it's best to include replays of what you mean :). There are some excellent zerg and protoss players on here who would be happy to look and see if there are any problems with the zerg play, and I would imagine that in many cases that's where the problem will lie.

You're right however that the 4 gate is incredibly easy to do, and late game protoss can be pretty much invincible if the zerg doesnt keep up or allows toss to macro on 3-4 bases unhindered.

I would suggest watching HuK vs MoonGlade (on HDStarcraft) though, shows how well zerg can do vs protoss with current 'standard' army compositions. It shows how roach, hydra, corruptor can certainly be evenly matched with a colossus death ball.

It seems I underestimated the challenges. Not only are they very “challenging” (go figure)  but they teach you a hell of allot about the units for the various races. Exactly what I needed to be honest!
I now have gold in the first 6, 3 to go!

The challenges are actually really good. I think it was the one called "Opening Gambit" that really helped me learn how to macro well. Having a goal to work towards when macroing allowed me to learn in a well structured manner.

Here is one reason why I think protoss should all **** off :D.

This is a custom I was playing with a friend, i was clearly ahead and then pow all gone in a split second. Slightly OP?

4gate isn't a problem, its more the voidray collosi (sometimes with mothership) or early pushes with 8 sentrys and gateway units which make it incredibly hard for zerg and makes me a sad panda.

Ill stop complaining or ill pop a blood vessel in my neck.

cheers Houd for some good games the other day.

Some nice 2 v 2's - 5 wins and we only get gold!! cheers anyway.

Cheers to you too, they were some fun games. I especially liked your insistence on going mass marine even in the face of banelings, and making it work!

For now i can still only justify speaking as a lame protoss player :p. As far as i could tell, there wasnt a huge difference between you. You had the supply count advantage at some points, but when it came down to the big battles, you looked pretty even. I might even suggest you couldve won earlier if your supply wasnt tied up in corruptors for so long..

wrt the archon toilet, it was a big loss, but..in fairness you came back quite quickly in the supply count. Your roaches held the counter so well having delayed with spine crawlers XD.

At the end, losing your entire drop and then being immediately counterattacked with the recall wasnt a great situation to be in tbh..

I'm still trying to master the zerg tech tree, but I wonder if there's a better unit mix you couldve used later on against T3 protoss. Roach hydra is always good, but protoss was using the top reaches of their tech tree against you. You had brood lords in the archon toilet, but no sign of them thereafter..

EDIT:

Marines are surprisingly good against everything if micro'd well.

*nods*

Yeah but without the archon toilet that was going to be my 'push' to get the win hopefully, Or account to it. I did the drop because I felt I had to get one of his expo's otherwise I could never win.

Also, I couldn't remake any broods as I didnt have the funds because after the archon toilet, i was frantically trying to get my food count back. I was at 200 (i think) and went down to about 80! Im glad you liked my mass spines, made me chuckle and clears up supply for my broods

I'll say the same thing I say to everyone who complains about the archon toilet, especially zerg.

If you let a protoss tech/expand to the point where they have a stalker/voidray/colossus/archon/mothership army, you deserve to be molested by the archon toilet. That composition takes so much time and gas that any kind of delay you can pull of will be effective.

The reason it is so strong is because it's hardly been around any time at all, give the top players more time and it may remain a strong strat but it will just be one of many.

As an aside, I recently decided to blitz through the campaign on Brutal, hadn't bothered much with it before, completed on Hard first time around. Have to say most of it is kinda silly, the only hard part is the fact that your enemies get upgrades right off the bat and you occasionally have the micro.

The only mission I had trouble with was the lava one because I kept getting my reapers killed but Mutas and burrowed Banelings.

Yeaa, saw the scramble to get the count back up. The unit composition was more of a curiosity tbh.. I mean the battle itself looked pretty even, just the toilet made it one-sided in the end. Maybe that's a unit control thing i dont know, never really used/come across the toilet in my own games.

Incidentally, is it possible to neural parasite a mothership?!
