maybe it's just the fact MMR is so varied in gold league, as it's the most populated league
Each league has 20% of the total players (except GM)

I also find win/loss streaks from day-to-day, I guess that MMR doesn't update instantly.

also with ghost you can EMP your own BC before engagement to prevent feedback, BUT im not good enough to do this or remember this in a game lol.

Masters is top 2%, and then GM is top 200 players. Diamond 18% and others 20% each.

MMR is a moving average. Don't know the duration but it feels like about MA20. If you go on a 5+ losing streak you'll discover the players you're playing get noticeably worse. If you keep losing you'll start going up against opponents "slightly favoured" and if you lose to them you'll get demoted a league!

I used to play a lot of this, although it's becoming hard to fit it in now. Still stuck in the same league for nearly a year (platinum) and I seem to lose 90% of the games I'm cheesed/all ined :-( Cheese isn't exactly rare, yet i always seem to fail against it.

So... What is the best way to prevent losing against a fast Nydus when FFEing?

Finding it hard to stablise at the moment, I'll have streaks like 6W then 6L, maybe it's just the fact MMR is so varied in gold league, as it's the most populated league. I also suffer from a gambling type of mentality; basically I'll keep playing until I win, then have a break as if I've now got something to lose, silly really.

Is there anywhere else you guys communicate to practice etc? I rarely see anyone in the OcUK channel.

I know what you mean. I just went into diamond league after a 11/12win streak. Lost 3/4 in a row, then beat 3/4 favoured opponents then lost 5/6 in a row! rage inducing!

Hi all,

Just getting back into this after some time off. Player
Code is 660 Slinkie so add me for some practice games. Just making my way out of bronze!

I remember a few weeks ago someone mentioned of a OcUK tournament, has this already happened or any details when the next one will be?

I ran the last couple but I have hung up my sc boots until hots release, but I'm sure there be someone willing to host providing there is interest. We normally had about 16 players per tourney and I don't recommend knockout style as they rarely get finished.

Protoss iirc? It's really easy to focus buildings on just the front. The key when doing a forge fast expand is spreading pylons. First pylon (maybe second as well for redundancy vs roaches) at the front, then all remaining ones should be spread around your main to give full vision. Over time, keep a stalker/zealot patrolling around your main. If you see a nydus go down pull enough probes to kill it as fast as possible. If they go insane and throw down 3-4 you can build a cannon or two near your nexus using those handy pylons you built (it's a significant investment for them as well) and pull back enough units to help defend. If it's a superstrong allin off of one base then if pushed you can sacrifice your main and save your probes, but it'll depend on the situation and the map as to whether or not you actually want to do this..

Yeah Protoss... I think the problem is that I've resisted the FFE for so long and now I just don't know how to do it too... If the Zerg makes any decent push, I'm so late scouting it that I tend to fail :-/ I just need to practise some PvZ I think as my win rate vs Zerg is pretty bad atm :-(

In PvZ you need to stop the zerg controlling the map. They can launch the quickest attacks and if you don't get a decent heads-up, you will most likely be too slow reacting to almost every type of harrass / sneak attack they can throw at you.

I like to get a relatively fast stargate to build a few phoenix (dont invest fully into air tech though), scout the map killing overlords, clearing lings and then being a pain. It gives you decent scouting info, allows you to harrass (and usually when they are being harrassed your own main is safe), and if you're lucky they will overreact and get too many spores / queens / hydras - if they don't react strongly enough you can just carry on making more to punish them. It's not the only opening that works, nor probably the best, and once they've reacted your phoenix will only be good to pick off overlords, but the point of it is active scouting, and not letting the zerg pin you in through harrassment while they take the map. My micro sucks (the only time it doesn't is when I forget totally about macroing behind it) and I always lose phoenixes in positions that better players wouldn't, but the most important thing is that it at least gives me an idea of what is happening in the zerg base and will maybe let me shut down certain avenues he could go down.

Also don't be afraid to sacrifice units for scouting information, or at very least spend the money to research hallucination. If you can't get probes or observers in don't just feel resigned to being in the dark. If you constantly have an idea where his army is and what his tech is, you shouldn't be caught out by nydus / drops / mutas.

And anyway, to get a fast nydus the zerg needs fast lair tech, which you should certainly be scouting early enough to start preparing - considering a Spire is the most likely option (though nydus, infestors, roach drops are all possibilities), pylons all over your main with a cannon or two and units pulled back is just the obvious thing to do and should be enough to help.

Playing a passive macro game against Zerg always results in defeat for me.

How much memory are people using?

With 4GB sometimes the game will minimize and Windows tell me that I'm running out and it wants to close Starcraft. That's with nothing except maybe Mumble, Steam, Comodo firewall and Microsoft anti-virus running.

Then either windows is screwed or there is far more running that that. Check your processes, not just your current programs.

It's not all the time, just once in a while, so I will close Steam and everything I can.
Sometimes I might have left Chrome open, and it will tell me soon into the game, but I would have thought 4GB is enough for Starcraft and a tab or two in Chrome to be open.

Chrome can use quite a but of ram sometimes, try it without Chrome and see of the same thing happens

Go to start>right click computer>properties>advanced system settings>advanced>settings>advanced and check how much virtual memory you are using. If you have no paging file set that will be the problem.

I've got 1GB on my SSD. I changed it to system managed on another hard drive, maybe that will help.

Man I really hate it when you've won a game, the opponent even says GG but then they won't leave, hiding buildings all over the map. Usually it doesn't take long to find them, but there's the odd occasion where you've won a base race and you don't really have much economy to build enough units to scout a large map with any kind of quickness. They know there's absolutely no possibility of them winning the match and they are simply doing it to spite the opponent for beating them - poor form if you ask me, much lower than cheesing.
