**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

lol yeah it doesnt happen often to me, but some guy cheesed me with mass cannons last night because he wanted a quick game because he had to go, so i just run out of my base build a new base and counter cannoned him, he killed it but i put pylons all over the map to waste his time, hate cheese. Ended up being a 20min game.

I've got 1GB on my SSD. I changed it to system managed on another hard drive, maybe that will help.

You must be running a lot of programs to be using all of that 1gb pagefile surely? I never go over 200-300mb on my pagefile and i have it set it to 1gb on my ssd to.

Hmm unless he is using ultra settings, maybe that's why he is running out of memory? I just did a little test, with Firefox with 4 tabs open + Steam and SC2 and i use about 55% of my 4gb memory, not even close to running out . And i do use low settings in sc2 for maximum performance.

Pagefile is only a issue if you run out of memory (RAM) right?

I don't think he was running out of memory. I've seen cases where my hdd starts thrashing. I alt tab out and see what is going on. 120mb out of my 8gb remaining. The cause? Firefox and a flash.

Haven't had it happen recently though since I'm up to date with all three: AMD drivers, Firefox, and Flash.

Suspect he just had a memory leak somewhere.

I haven't played SC2 in about a week now and to be honest I'm seriously considering quitting for good.

I just can't justify spending so much time playing one game anymore and SC2 isn't exactly a game you can play casually. I've loved following the scene and playing and practicing but I've barely touched any other games.

Think it's time to move on. Besides, Guild Wars 2 is around the corner......;)

Does anyone else like mono battles?

They look like super fun from videos I have seen (day 9 and husky) and this evening my friend and I did some 4v4 where we did it (nobody else did) and it was quite fun.

If anyone else fancies joining us then let me know via trust!

Cheers guys. STill have the disc. On 50meg bb and disabling ptp actually reduced my speed. Maybe their servers were under heavy load that day?

I kinda miss it now but I know if I reinstall it then I'll neglect learning HTML and waste coutnless hours on it when I am not improving.......

Sadly, no other games have caught my interest at the moment. What to do eh?

Yea they're a good laugh. There are custom maps specifically designed for it as well so that you can do proper 4v4 monobattles :D

Maybe we can get an OcUK 4v4 monobattle going, need 8 people total :)

Just tried to run this for the first time in ages, it patched but it freezes at the startup screen, is there a safe mode or something to log in and make changes?

Only difference in my machine is adding a second 6950 2gb.

Exactly my position atm, however sadly I've not found any alternative games to play.

yeh what happened to me, now im just waiting for HOTS but when that comes out im just do campaign and then a few 3s and 4s not going deep with 1v1 like I used to.

tbh once you commit to the break after a few weeks you dont miss it at all and iv managed to complete a lot of games since not devoting so much time to sc2, although my new crack is LoL ;)

Love it when you get one of those numpties who pre-emptively says GG when they think they've won, only for you to hold on and win the game. Just played a guy and I actually asked him during his bunker rush: "Why are you saying GG? are you conceding?", and he responded "No, you've lost". From there I just decided I had to win for the good of eSports.

The thing that probably saved it for me was that I had an early expansion up which he failed to kill. I could actually tell with each attack he made that he was beginning to realize maybe the game was turning against him, so he panicked and went for drops, but unfortunately his medivacs were duly met with some tasty feedback from my Templar. Killed about 2 that were presumably full, so 20 supply, with only one unit :D

Ultimately the game ended up with one engagement where 4 or 5 storms killed his entire bio ball, and I don't think he even attempted to get any EMPs off with his many, many ghosts. Bad player, but that doesn't bother me as he was a league above in the rankings. It just feels great to bring these people back down to Earth and teach them that bad sportsmanship gets you nowhere. I hope he feels a little foolish!

I'm a very new bronze league player.
I had a game recently where I'd rushed the other player right at the beginning and thought I'd won it but he lifted off and moved his base away. I stopped playing properly because I thought I'd won and I did such a bad job of scouting out where he'd gone that game lasted 1hr 10mins though I eventually won. I was so angry during the game and felt like surrendering but I kept playing.

Also I just had a game where at the beginning the other player said something I didn't understand and I just replied "gl" then he replied "don't need any, I'm farming".(http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft2/news/15405-portrait-farmers-to-be-punished) I didn't know what this meant but I thought that maybe if he wasn't playing properly I could rush him with my marines and finish he game quickly. During the game he told me my tactics wrong and told me how you're supposed to play it. I eventually won the game. Afterwards I found out farming is where people from higher up leagues purposely let themselves drop down into the bronze league so they can win enough games to unlock portrait pictures. It felt good knowing I'd beaten someone who was from at least silver league who thought they'd have no trouble winning. (EDIT It's possible he meant he didn't care about winning because he was still trying to drop down the ladder.)
I really don't understand why people would want to farm but I don't really care if they do.
