original

There are 'original' games out there, but they will always be swamped by more main stream titles. Microsoft's aquisition of Lionhead and, to a lesser extent, Rare is a good sign. Lionhead have never been massively sucessful, and I can't say I like any of their games, but at least they have a go at being original :)

I don't particularly thing Nintendo create that many 'original' games either. I love some of the games they do, and I hope the Wii motion sensor doodah is as cool as it looks, but they hardly create new genres every week :)

As long as games aren't lazy, and they have some kind of originality in characters, settings or storylines then I'm quite happy.. I don't want or need a deluge of games that try to redefine gaming :)

There is only so much that can be done with existing technology which is why we get booms of originality and then a stale area for the next 3-5 years until teachnology is upgraded in consoles.

The reason Nintendo are breaking boundaries now is simply due to the duel-screen touch-screen handheld. When was the last time you played a game with a touchscreen before the DS? Everything that appears on it will be original for that reason and the genre scope is widened to include countless more types of game.

You may say "Mics have been around for years but I've never blown into one before to control a game", that is because before the DS there was no standard to work towards. Most Mics seen on home computers pick up 60% noise, 40% voice and are horrible quality so this would never have worked until now.

Originality = patience. I have seen hundreds of original games over the last few years, some did very well, others were barely ever heard of.

The fact that people say that new FPS's are just Half-life copies is just laughable... Duke Nukem, Doom etc were there a long time before Half-Life, and older maze games defined the blocks that these games worked from.

What a waffler I am!!

If you are talking about me then I am afraid you mis-understood my point.

Well the only problem with Wii is that it will only appeal to a certain audience, namely those who dont mind standing there like a loony waving their arms about pretending to swing a tennis bat or cast a fishing rod :D The control method is probably a bit different to whats been seen before so you have to give Nintendo credit for that, but the actual games still look like the same old stuff, so what happens when the novelty wears off? Anyway I hope I'm proved wrong and the Wii does end up more than a novelty. I guess the low price it will retail for will stand in its favour.

I'm not sure what's the worse comment. The mind-boggling obviousness of "OMG why do I only ever hear about sequels coming out?" (clue: sequels are far easier to hype), or:

You champion originality and then insult the company that brought you Ico, Shadow of the Collosus, Katamari Damacy, Guitar Hero, and Metal Gear Acid, to name a but a few?
did u post the exact samething in the other thread, here was my response if u missed it
''But Sony didnt bring you those games, They Published them, but not produced, and yes i do own a 360, why? because if i want a new games system, i'll have it now thanks, for 200 quid, and then in november i'll by a wii, then ive spend around 350 on consoles, and i have 2, which will give me much, much, more than a ps3. I will have the x360, for the multiplayer, the odd game that i love, for example fight night round 3, i think the control system i that is amazing. But i will have the Wii for the innovative games which i like most''
EDITED: to make it seem less angry, taht wasnt the message i wanted to convey

You don't have to wave and dance around like an idiot if you don't want to though, apparently anyway, so you can just go off and control normally, though I would have thought with some games you'd be at a large disadvantage.

We'll have to wait and see with regards to how well the Wii controller will work in the multiple genres we're going to be seeing come out together at launch, and on topic, I'm counting on there being originality of some sort in each of them, taking clever ways of moving the controller etc in games.

there we go, no need to get all 'personal' with thhings this is a forum, where people give opinions and thats mine.

Calm down a little, I don't see his comments being very personal, and there're merely observations/highlights on things you have said that aren't accurate etc.

kk lol im not angry or trying to be aggressive, and the end of the day we are talking about computer games ;)

at the end of the day good games are what is required wether they are original or not.

There is original twists on games coming out which is really the best you can expect when is anything ever original ?

one i could mention is viva pinata which is a bit on the diff / original side

table tennis is not exactly original but its not something which is released every day and has competition (they even released it half price as it didnt have a mass following) a gamble non the less if it wasnt so damn playable :)

as a rule imo most original games are crap they need to be twisted into a playable form by years of subtle changes :) and variations of the same theme.
