Os performance for games

to be honest, at most Vista is only going to be a few frames down on XP..

I'd much rather play games on vista @68fps than XP @72fps..
There's very few games that would be unplayable on Vista, but perfectly playable on XP, so the performance difference is redundant imo.

The only reason people would be bothered about slightly worse performance is when playing Crysis, which no machine can play decently anyways ;)

Ah well, it's from my personal experience, but every game I play is playable in Vista, and I'm not too bothered if I'd get a few frames more in XP when I wouldn't even *notice* the extra frames!

I would say XP at the minute, but Vista is doing very well lately for gaming, only a few frames here and there really.

Well for me I've only tried TF2 on Vista x64 so far but at the same settings as my XP installation I get pretty much the same FPS but it crashes at the end of every map.

In terms of raw FPS then XP has a VERY slight edge to the point where it is not noticeable. Vista is better in almost every other way.

Both COD4 and Supcom FA run great in Vista64 here. Installed it yesterday and really liking it.
Not really done any good tests or played either enough to draw a line though.

So far I'm thinking most people talking vista down have clearly not used it, or seen any up to date tests.

the only game ive noticed a difference in is crysis, that was improved in sp1, but its still performing worse on vista than xp, every other game seems to perform about the same

Hello Dicehunter, as dbmzk1 has already stated, in terms of an overall raw frames per second in the majority of games out their, then Widows XP is the better choice. However, at this stage, Windows Vista is only behind Windows XP by a couple of frames per second at best not even that now in my opinion.

Hello utajoker, that may be due to the fact that you might be running Crysis under DirectX 10 as opposed to DirectX 9.

There are to many people worried about the exact frames per second they get and they have to get a certain average of frames per second for example 30 and unless they achieve this, they are not happy even though the game is running smoothly. :)
