OS X Mavericks - general chat

Morning all, as title really.

Downloading now on my painfully slow broadband.... no official release notes available yet, although there is an iPhoto update immediately available that fixes an crashing issue using iPhoto in the GM.

Apple's documentation in general for Mavericks has been woeful so far. It's really hard as a developer to figure out precisely what they've changed. :(

Backing up stuff now ready to do a fresh install :)

May be a long night! Won't be able to sleep until the system is setup exactly how I like it :D

Update: MBA survived an update installation fine. Was already a pretty clean installation, with only a few core apps and a few additional (iWork etc), like Evernote and the like. All nicey nicey.

The iMac though.... have done a full backup in prep for a clean install, but thought I'd try an upgrade for fun. Acrobat XI throws a total fit, bombing every attempt to start. The other real oddity is that the monitor graphic in Displays prefs is mirrored upside down! Have no idea why and there's rotation action going on.

That being the case with the iMac, I'm doing a USB installer now and will clean install once that's done.

Happy with the MBA, as I've been running with it since DP1 through to DP8 then GM and know it's OK for for what it gets used for.

well how long was it last time between GM and launch? that should give us an idea of a launch date. Also probably ipads, MBP's will launch same time

How will the upgrade work? Never had to change version of Mac OS before.

Will want to update my 13" rMBP when Mavericks is released, full screen applications on both screens is why - not read about anything else to be fair.

Will it be a clean install so I loose everything or an upgrade? If a clean install can I just setup a time machine backup or something... I don't really have many applications and files but for example my vmware needs to be backed up somehow. - work laptop so need minimum downtime :D

You will purchase and update via the App store, expect it to cost in the region of £13.99 or something.

All your settings and apps etc will remain as you left them pre-install.

Personally I did a clean install as I've various stuff on my laptop that could do with a clear down. On my iMac I did an over the top, and that's worked too.

Laptop does feel better for a refresh though - but they always do don't they?

To make a bootable USB from Mavericks is a little different to the previous editions - see here on how to do it.
