OSX El Capitan

Can someone verify for me that Microsoft/Apple have solved the El Capitan Word 11/16 issues?

They haven't; certainly not with Office 2016. There was an update on Tueday but it appears to still be broken and Microsoft have now said it's an issue with El Capitan.

I'm guessing 2011 is a mess on El Capitan? Was thinking about reinstalling it.

According to MacRumors the upcoming 10.11.1 update will carry a compatibility update fix for Office 2016 along with fixes for Mail.

Getting a Mac Mini today to use as an iOS emulator for Xamarin, never used a mac before. Is is possible to install the new OS to an external USB SSD to test?

Update - Got my Mac mini and install El Capitan on a external SSD, it was really easy to do;)

For what it's worth I have the 10.11.1 beta and haven't seen any real issues with Office 2016 or 2011. That's on a Macbook, rMBP and an iMac.

2016 was an utter mess previous to the beta.

Updated fine, have seen some small improvements. Mail is definitely improved, it was quite laggy before. Safari seems to be a lot slicker too. Nice change overall. I should take a read of the bigger changes to see if there is anything useful I'm missing :)

How do you do that now? All I see if a first aid option within disk utility.

So run a backup first. Then restart, hold down alt, select the recovery partition, press enter, let it load up, select disk utility, select your hard drive partition and select Repair Disk Permissions. Once it's finished you can restart and it will (should) boot normally.

That's good to hear; just a shame Apple and Microsoft didn't sort it out sooner. Although Microsoft seemed to firmly place the ball in Apple's court regarding 2016, certainly reading around various forums it appears Apple 'did something' for the release that differed from the El Capitan betas (apparently 2016 worked fine on the betas) causing 2016 to fubar.

I did move back to 2011 and the recent Office 2011 update seemed to have sorted most of the issues there.

Either way, hopefully it won't be long before 10.11.1 is released!
