I don't think a renewal warrants the same price as a new one tbh.

It's expensive getting people into your house to steal your DNA off the bath tub and getting it into a Passport.

My Passport expired just after my birthday a few months back and it's just come through. Next Expiry 2018 !!

SO let's get this right, I have to pay £74 to be reminded that I'm 50 when it next expires.!

Depends. For most things the netherlands, Sweeden, Norway etc. are pricier. Not for a lot of things but for some they are. Certainly though I see your point and I think we get charged way too much for stuff like this.
