Our bin men are on strike

The bin men over here in Stafford seem to be fine. They can change the collection day at short notice (bank holidays) but email comms is pretty good. Garden waste is now £36/year. For recycling, we now have blue bags for cardboard and you can fit a lot in there if folded, alongside the standard 240L recycling bin. The bin men aren't fussy about 30kg+ loads either. Did check with the council as I know some councils have a 30kg limit. Useful for all the garden crap.

As for Sunak/Tories, I'm not a Tory myself, but I don't think we would be any better off under a Labour government at the moment.

Yeah your not wrong, most of the time its in the middle of the drive so I have to get out to move the bin then reverse in, sometimes I think they are trolling me.

We are on a largely terraced street and they just bring it to the curb wherever the truck is when they end up getting the bin to it.

The thing that ***** me right off is that people like to just chuck crap in our bins as they walk past. We live near a station so have quite a few people walking past our house and there are usually 3-4 things in our bin when we collect it the next day. Never the right stuff for the bin either. Animals!

Caught mine doing a good job. It's stuffed so full of grass and hedge it took 3 goes to empty. Then a bit of grass dropped out. And he picked it up!
The bin men round here don't pick up any bits that fall out from the recycling bins when emptied. Earlier this year, I found a Cadburys Roses' tub lid on the ground half an hour after the bin lorries came. As a womble, I picked it up and put into the nearest recycling bin. Came back 2 hours later and whosever bin I threw the lid in got it out of their bin and left more/less same place as I found it. I knew it was the same lid as lid had a sticker on it with Merry Christmas love Jean on it.

At least they didn't toss it on the ground...

Now it is, the poor soles have only just got their feet under the table.

I actually don't particularly blame the council, I make the unresearched assumption that they waste money because of what central government tells them to do. Which in itself is a legacy accumulated over many years.
In fact I don't blame the bin men for striking, I think the country is an unfunded mess with an increasing cost of living.
I also don't think the labour party would achieve anything, when was the last time the country was run with any semblance of competence?

What sort of soles are they, Dover soles? R soles?

Our bin men are great, no complaints here.

Some of our neighbours though, are pretty dumb. Not putting their bins out properly or not putting anything heavy on their bin on a windy day etc.

Ours are annoying. I'm sure they have competitions to who can make the most amount of noise at 7am. A noisy activity sure, but shouting down the street to each other and chucking the bins back behind them blindly somewhere that resembles "close" to the house is annoying. They mix up the bins. A lid slightly ajar and they won't take it. They check the bins to see if there is an excuse not to take it without the right stuff in it. They won't take anything not in the bin itself, like say a large TV box. Has to be in the bin. What we can and cannot recycle is a bit silly imo. Food bin, refuse bin, recycle bin and glass bin. Also you can get garden waste bins for a subscription fee.

One day I went out early to put the bin out as forgot the night before. I just about got it to the end of the drive as the guy was coming but did beat him. He had a moan that it needs to be out by 06:30 the morning they come (it was about 7) and said he would "let me off" this time. Complete jobsworth ****.

Don't expect any solutions just putting it out there, I wonder I many others or taking industrial action around the country, do we think things are beginning to collapse?
Should they get the army in?

Sunak and the Tories are obviously not up to running the country. We need tough actions fast.
Get the army in to kill the binmen, or to collect the bins? You need to clarify.

Our recycling bins are the most easiest to understand. Cardboard (which no greasy food has been in contact with), paper, glass, plastic, aerosol cans and tetra paks go into one bin. Some people put used nappies, food waste, dog poo in them. These people should never breed. If they do have kids, they too should never breed.

My parents don't bother with a garden waste bin. £45 for 8 months. They just go to the tip 3-4 times a year which is only a mile up the road. Don't have a lawn which helps with the garden waste.

Many of my neighbours put their bins out the night before even if its blowing a gale and like you say don't put anything heavy on it, its like some kind of ritual.

I just look out the window in bemusement as they are trying to recapture the lost rubbish the following morning, some don't even bother expecting the bin people to do it.
