Out of date sausages

I once heard that every out of date sausage was at one point not out of date at all, and was probably even safe to eat.

On another subject, I picked up some deodorant today and it smells suspiciously like girl's stuff. But I like the smell. What does this mean?

It means your sausage is out of date.:p

Bad food poisoning sucks.. you may as well put a service bell near the toilet :p

I always smell the meat whilst preparing it - even if it's well within it's use by date.

Smell, taste and appearance are reasonable indicators of food that is safe to eat but they cannot be relied on absolutely. The quantity of pathogenic bacteria (the toxic ones) in food can reach dangerous levels before there are any obvious signs that it is 'off'.

That's why they have use by dates really. You can ignore the best before since it is only an indicator of when the quality of the product will begin to drop, but the use by is there purely to safeguard our health.

Am I the only person that checks product dates of items that need refrigeration to near OCD levels?

I like the to buy stuff that is as fresh as possible.
