OVERclock best safe speed for i720 ????

Looks like a different bios from mines mate, is that an msi x58 platinum motherboard ??

I beleive different motherboard will = different bios ?? i cant even change lots of settings, they are all greyed out like i previously posted, i think i need advice from an owner of the same board and bios as me otherwise i dont think i can do the same stuff as others, can i ? i dont know, hmmm :(

remember all x58 motherboards are different...i noticed that you have an msi mobo...i just used google to find "overclocking for x58 msi" i found this in like 10 seconds...

Set the memory multiplier to AUTO
Set memory timing to 8-8-8-24-1T
Fix PCI at 37.3MHz
Disable spread spectrum
Enable EIST
Disable C-Dtate
Enable "Turbo" boost
Set base clock to 195MHz
Set QPI to Full-Speed
Leave it at 4.8GT
Set CPU Vcore voltage to +0.25~0.30

Warning: Any overclocking is done at your own risk.

try that with a base clock of say 170 just to be safe, then increase it a little at a time....here is the link to the site

http://www.cpu3d.com/review/6693-14/msi-x58-platinum-motherboard/overclocking.html

go to MSI main site and make sure you have all the latest drivers for your motherboard before you start overclocking

i couldnt help but noticing that your IOH temperature seems to be 127C. isnt that a bit hot or am i missing something stupid?

the only thing i can suggest to you is go post on the msi forums or look on there as somebody has bound to have written a thread about ocing your board....or you can look at other peoples settings and try something similar:)

i noticed that too mate, what exactly is IOH tempreature anyway ?? and i guess it shouldnt be at 127c ?

I have worked out how i change the fsb and ram freq :)

I notice that the IOH tempreature never changes from 127c even if its overclocked or not, it stays the same, I can only imagine and hope its a bios bug (i hope), so clocked or unclocked the ioh tempreature sticks at 127c, anyone else noticed this with this board and bios ??
-------------------------------------------------------

I noticed that on the motherboard there is a little switch that allows you at a simple flick of the switch to select easy overclocking base clock settings of either 133,166 or 200 (see screenshot added), so it was set to 133 obviously, and i set it to 166 to see what would happen and straight away i notice my ram is now posting on boot screen as a slightly more acceptable 1328mhz, and my cpu fsb is now at 3320, all seems fine (see photos), although i havent ran any stress tests yet. (anyone know a decent stress testing program that i can run quickly rather than hours n hours ?).
I didnt alter any other settings in the bios, just left them as default settings.
(also, what the best program to use to check the tempreatures etc and other important data, iam not too sure whats what ?).

found these threads on the msi forum for you

overclocking thread
http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=122503.0

Dip switch thread
http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=123593.0

go the the msi forum and type in the search box i7 overclocking...you will find lots of threads to do this with plenty of people on there willing to help....lots of people have reported 4ghz on air.....i suggest you go to msi forum, register and start posting and reading threads about overclocking i7 on there, you will get a lot more knowledge on the motherboard that you own over there than you will here, obviously:)

You are NOT going to find a better place to learn about your motherboard other than over at the official forum:-)

i see over at msi people have posted lots of settings for ocing the i7,there is no reason why you cannot do the same with yours...dont mess about over here, get your ass over there asap :-)
