Thought it may be useful for us to have a thread about independant garages that we'd used and had good dealings with for others to use read and use if they are nearby.

This week I have taken the Alfa for it's 72k mile service for the first time to an indy garage. I used Heath Road Garage which is based in Sandbach, just off the J17 of the M6. The garage is ran and owned by Alfie and him and his team did the cambelt service for a shade over £300 when the main dealer was over double that!

They put themselves down as an italian and german car specialist and the service that I received was great....thumbs up from me!
 
Parkside Autos Worksop - BMW specialist, very knowlegable on all BMWs, honest and friendly - 01909 530046.

Tranzfix Barnsley - Expert on anything to do with transmissions 01226-381000

Driver transmissions birmingham - same as above 0121 440 3476

Newhall BMW sheffield -another good independent, have only used a couple of times 0114 2421318

Hawleys Tyres - http://www.hawleystyres.co.uk/ a very professional bunch of tyre depots, their mobile service is cheapest.

Run by a guy named Chris - top bloke who is very honest and trustworthy. Been using them for a number of years now, along with a lot of mates, and nobody has abad word to say against them.

For tyres... it's gotta be Bathwick Tyres at the bottom of Kings Hill, just opposite the Italian restaurant. Awesome prices, just don't expect the guys fitting the tyres to dicuss politics or economics whilst they're working (or even whilst they're not working) ;)

I take it they do all cars? My sister needs to get her car sorted, we normally use STS near Dorcan but could compare prices with Plaisters I guess!
 
John Pye Motorsport, in Bishop Auckland - 01388 661107. Rally & Race preperation but they will quite happily work on anything, specialists with Subaru's since they rally their own. They have just spent shedloads on brand spanking new MOT equipment, I know a few places in Darlington nearby that send gearboxes etc to John Pye's for a rebuild.

Excellent family business, when ever I've phoned it's always the owner or his son who answered. I've not a bad thing to say about them and I'm going to be using them for many years to come.

yes, mate, they'll do 'em all. They should give you a quote over the phone, otherwise take the car in and they'll look at it to see what needs doing and give you a call to make sure you're happy with the price. Been using them for ages, and not had a nasty surprise yet... despite previously owning a Citroën!
