Overclocking a Q8200 processor

Most likey yeah but you need to make sure they are the right ones

Print off the screenshot you made above so you can see the technical names for each one

CAS#Latency (CL) = 5

etc

I must just warn you that if we set the memory timings to aggressively they may not like it and the PC won't post!

If that happens, switch off the PC for 1 minute and try again as sometimes a board has a Fail-safe feature and restores itself to your previous settings.

If it can't restore the settings you will have to CLR CMOS, check that out in the manual but its a normally a liitle jumper on the board that you have to change, learn about that first just in case! :p

ok running @ 5-5-5-15 i think here is a screenie

Ok cool, that will be good enough for the moment! :)

What we need to do is test the memory is good and working at that speed (should be), you can do this with a software tester such as Prime95 >> Torture Test >>> Blend or as its saturday night you may wanna do some gaming for an hour or two to see if its stable . .

Really what we need to do is run a program called Memtest overnight as thats great for finding any errors, you could do this while your sleeping hah! :p

Memtest86+ V4.00

Download the .iso file and burn it to a blank CD-ROM, hopefully you know how to burn an .iSO yeah? . . the program will boot straight from the CD-Rom so you need to make sure the CD is first in the Boot-Order list in the BIOS . . .

So bit of gaming, an hour or Prime95>Blend and a good overnight Memtest.

Memtest will run forever if you let it, any errors will showup in the main screen, every time it does a complete pass you will see the loop counter increase (1 then 2 etc), takes about 1-2hours to do each loops with 4GB!

I'm off for a bit to eat and watch Merlin on iPlayer!

Nice One Dan . .

The next step after (and only after) your sure the memory is solid @ DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 is to go back into BIOS and change the Memory Frequency down from DDR2-800 to DDR2-666, then you need to change the FSB from 333MHz to 400MHz, that will overclock your chip up to 2.8GHz hopefully while leaving your memory running again at 400MHz (DDR2-800) 5-5-5-15

yay was 5-6-6-18 now running stable @ 5-5-5-15
well it was DDR2-666 5-6-6-18 and now its DDR2-800 5-5-5-15

It's a move in the right direction for increasing the performance of your system! :)

sweet
my first overclock ...lol sorta....
Were not quite overclocking yet, just getting the hardware to run at its *official* speed . . .

Were going from Limping >>> Walking >>> Walking Fast >>> Jogging

If this doesn't work then try adding more volts to you cpu voltage

never put more then 1.5 volts in to your cpu tho
