Overclocking e6600 on Gigabyte 965P-DS3P 3.3 - problems

I'm a complete novice at this, but I've been following the 965P-DS3P overclocking guide in the Motherboard forum and am trying to speed up my e6600 using the suggested settings provided. Trying 9x300fsb initially, however, when I save the machine reboots, briefly shows the new settings (2.7Ghz) in the post screen, then reboots again and defaults to stock settings (9x266fsb). I've got the memory set to 2.1v, manually adjusted PCI to 100, added 0.1v to chipset. Can't figure out what's going on though!! Bios is F5. Any ideas?

OK - cleared the CMOS - no joy. Doesn't like 9x300 at all. In fact, I can't get it to boot with any oc'd values. Am I missing a setting somewhere in the Bios that I need to switch off?
CPU Clock Ratio=9
CPU Clock Control=Enabled
CPU Host Frequency=300
PCI Express Frequency=100
CIA2=Disabled
System Memory Multipier=2.5
High Speed DRAM DLL=Option1
DRAM Timing=Manual
CAS=4
DRAM RAS to CAS=4
DRAM RAS Precharge=4
Precharge delay=12
Memory Performabce Enhance=Fast
System Voltage=Manual
DDR2 Overvoltage=+0.30v
PCI-E Overvoltage= Normal
(G)MCH Overvoltage=Normal
FSB Overvoltage=+0.10v
CPU Voltage=Normal (currently at 1.35v)

With these settings, I get the flashing *****System Voltage NOT Optimized!!****
Should I be doing something else with this?
Thanks.

Yes it flashes like that.

Have you disabled the other things like CE1/Speedstep etc, theese help with overclocking.

Have you done memtest? I had a set of geil ram and it wouldnt overclock at all, it wouldnt even run at 4 4 4 12, so try 5 5 5 15/18 and see if you have any joy.

CPU Enhancement Halt(C1E)=Disabled
CPU Thermal Monitor 2=Disabled
CPU EIST Function=Disabled
Virtulization Technology=Enabled

Tried with memory set to 5-5-5-18 as well - still reboots.
Funny, as the memory works fine on 4-4-4-12 on stock CPU values.
Is there a memory test in the Bios I can use? My old Lanparty had one.

System Memory Multipier=2.5 Change to 2
(G)MCH Overvoltage=Normal +.1

Tried these settings - system reboots on posting.
I've noticed that even at stock settings, if I have CPU clock control =enabled combined with DRAM Timing=Manual then machine will reboot on posting to default settings also.
Any ideas?

I read somewhere, the geil memory doesn't like 2.1 v, reduce that to 2.0, change the memory timings to 5.5.5.12, and memory from fast to normal. Pci-e to 105. And try again.

Again - no joy, save settings in bios, it intially posts showing 2.7ghz, then reboots to default settings. Is my memory cream-crackered?

quick question - what version bios should I be running on this board? I have F5 which is what the lastest on the website is, but I'm reading things about F8 - F10 bios that are used on similar boards. Mines a 965P-DS3P r3.3

Whatever the latest version is generally speaking. They don't usually release BIOS versions that are worse than the previous version.

you will find those other bois that are mention are for another board iirc for the ds3p was at f5 last time im checked about 1 month ago.

have you tried any of the memory tests that people have said about?

mine wont post with memory performance thingy on fast or turbo, i have it on normal/off ;)

I have a ds3 (well an s3 flashed to f11), the same ram, and an e6300, so pretty much same settings!

just to confirm.

DS3P HERE.(F5)

you might want to try the memory performance thing mate as suggested.

i have the same bored and just noticed you have the f5 bois anyway.

that is about the only setting that we have different and mine is clocked fine upto 3.4 gzh now.

Thanks everyone, the memory test is next on my list, I've downloaded memtest86-3.3.iso, too big to burn to floppy, so I burned to CD, but couldn't get my machine to boot into it.
Would someone be able to tell me exactly how I get it up + running. Sorry, bit of a noob to overclocking, my last board was a Lanparty and had the memtest in the bios!

Download the "Ultimate Boot CD" and run memtest86+ off it :)
