Hey guys.
So i'm gonna be overclocking my E8200, with the PC in my sig.
Now i'm not gonna be doing this until next week somtime, but i have some prep to do and questions to ask :)

Atm, i have the Freezer 7 Pro and have it sitting easily at 3Ghz at default settings. Temps are about 39c idle and ~53c? full load with Prime95. Voltages aren't actually set properly in my BIOS, but haven't had any bad effects so i've left it like that since last year; vCore on 1v and one of the 5v settings at ~3.5v.

I'm hoping to overclock this thing to at least 3.4Ghz, hopefully 3.6Ghz+. So my first question is will the Freezer 7 Pro suffice?
I was thinking of getting a new cooler. Initially the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer, but apparently according to frostytech's review, the Titan Fenrir is better. Anyone confirm this?
Would getting either of these two make a significant difference to help my overclock?
And which one should i go for? Because they are practically the same price this week, because of the weekly offers.
Edit: Would both of these fit on the MSI P35 NEO2-Fr without a problem? And small enough to fit inside the Antec Sonata III case?

I heard that the Fenrir is a bolt system, and not a push pin like the Sunbeam? Anyone confirm or is this wrong?

Before i start overclocking these are the things i need to do (which i'll check once i've done them):

Sort/manage/declutter hard drives - Check!
Reformat two partitions and install Vista 64-bit. - Check
Clean out PC and stick in a spare 120mm fan blowing down onto the mobo (doing this i don't actually know how; cba to drill into the side panel) - Check but no room for the extra 120mm fan :(
Manage cabling to ensure good airflow. - Umm check but not check..

Once all that's done, then i'll start overclocking.
Will be starting... sunday, latest.

This is what is looks like atm.

Any tips on cabling? Or anything else?

The fenrir is a beast of a cooler - best of the current crop with the TRUE, noctua and Scythe Mugen following (in that order) in terms of cooling, not necessarily noise.

You could likely do with an upgrade from the freezer, but you still have 10c of headroom before you really need to worry about temperatures. Clock it first, if you hit a temperature wall before a voltage/fsb wall, get a new cooler.

If you prefer a cool case (rather than within limits), definately upgrade

Freezer Pro should be fine, I've had them dispense with a fearsome amount of heat generated by heavily overclocked Opterons and Athlon X2's before.

My C2D is running at 3.2Ghz, going to aim for higher when I get around to it - just going to use the Freezer for it, not quite after 4Ghz tho!

Sorted the hard drives, and made a healthy ~40GB free space.

I think i'll do the reformatting, and whatnot before cleaning and stuff seeing as i'll have to wait for the Titan Fenrir which i'll order sometime in the next few days.

Changed my mind. Gonna get 250 posts first then order the stuff, and then reformat and install stuff.

Couple of questions:

How long does thermal paste last before drying up/separating? More specifically the Arctic MX-2. Last/first time i used it was last... december?

And with my spare antec 120mm fan, should i put this as a pull on the back of the Fenrir Titan when i get it, or pushing air over the RAM/NB? The RAM and NB are, i think, too hot at stock. This may limit me on my ram overclock?

Cheapo thermal paste will degrade over time - there's very little left on my old P4 now (really needs a new application, so it can have the stuff that came with my TRUE), but MX2 or AS5 shouldn't have the same problems, or at least will take a decent amount of time to get there. Don't worry about it too much, you'll likely find another excuse to replace/rebuild before then :-)

Ah yeah, sorry dunno why i didn't see it :p
Ah better RAM and mobo than me then :( Should be fun seeing how far this thing goes though. What temps you get on it?

Kl cheers for the paste info; reassuring :)

Edit: Don't worry. Simple and quick search found the answer to my question.

Edit: Quickly changed the voltages in the BIOS to what it should be..
vCore: 1.1v (lowest setting)
Idle temps are ~51c :/
Quick run of P95, but it hasn't been above 56c so far, but fans running 100% so might drop temp target to 60c instead of the 50c it's at now

Edit: Set temp target to 60c. Ran IntelBurnTest and got max temps of 62c

Edit: That's really really weird.. now the idle temps are back down to ~42c
Load temps: 55c with IntelBurnTest, fan at 55c target

Cooler, mouse and mat are coming tomorrow.
Going to start taking it apart and cleaning it now.

Edit: Arghh ocuk haven't sent it yet.. now i have a dismantled pc on my floor :( i'm so bored already

Edit: Ok so they have sent it to me. Received just a second ago, didn't receive the dispatch email but oh wells.

Ok so it's here in front of me; this thing is a beast! Much bigger than my Freezer 7 Pro. Will get pics down in 2 hours (driving lesson now) :/

Just one question: For the fan, which is better, the fan that came with it, or the Antec 3 speed double ball bearing one? Whichever one i don't use will be put over the RAM/NB.

Installed the titan fenrir.. have some progress shots...

The stuff here!

Installed it the wrong way! Duhhh

I don't think it's completely flat :/
I could see that the edges of the heatsink weren't touching once installed on the CPU as well.
