Overclocking my E8200 Log.

Temps have been really good despite it not being flat though (and i think i put too much thermal paste on it :()

Idle: ~35c
Load temps with P95: 44c
Load temps with IntelBurnTest: 48c
And this was with the fan at 25%, didn't increase in speed during testing.
Ah come on... re ran IntelBurnTest and it peaked at 51c :/

With F7P
Idle: ~43
Load with IntelBurnTest: ~55c at ~90-100% fan speed.

So overclocking this thing should be good :)
Gonna start OC'ing tomorrow! Watch this space! :D

Looking good Andrew :) Get crackin' on yer overclockin'!! :D

Re your DPI question on Facebook; they're just numbers really. I have a DeathAdder and a Logitech G5; 1800dpi vs. 2000dpi. They're both great mice but I prefer the G5 for my desktop because the screen is so large it's easier to use with a higher DPI mouse. But basically it's down to you. Some people get by fine on 800 or lower dpi, others want 4000 or so. Use whatever feels comfortable.

Thats a nice temp drop, used to use a freezer pro as well, switched it for a TRUE as the freezer couldnt cope with my quad over 4ghz, ive heard the fenrir is a really good cooler to, look forward to seeing how you get on:)

Late in on the thread but ooo nice :)

Much like how my pc looked when i first jumped into core 2 last year! Seems like the new cooler is the macdaddy of coolers (as you can already see from the temp drops), before i went matx, i was running the AF7 on an ip35 board with an e8200 too :) (still using the e8200 and my ocz ram too)

I found P35 boards to be brilliant clockers (P45 were an improvement but from what i read not much more) and i estimate you should be aiming for a 3.8ghz clock! (I took my old set up to that in an evening of quick testing) well 3.6 very stable should be pretty achivable (just be careful to hold you ram back first to see how far the cpu can go)

Either way good luck!

Just about to do :D

And kk thanks. Gonna mess about with them in-game after OC'ing and see whether i like switching to lower when zoomed and stuff. Best it seems.. is having on-the-fly sensitivity though, but we'll see.

EDIT: Soooo here we go! :D

Ahahahaha my pc's laughing at me..

3.4ghz
vCore: 1.125v
RAM: 1.9v 850mhz 4-4-4-12
Idle ~39c
Load 58c
After testing idle ~41c

The low multiplier or RAM is gonna hold me back i reckon.

Hmm little more tricky getting to 3.6ghz.. got there in the end.

One thing that i need to be reassured on. I didn't realise but the NB core went auto went up to 1.45v (Max for this board 1.55 i heard?), and the SB I/O Power is at 1.8v. I tried lowering these but got an unusual BSOD.. can't remember what it said but it wasn't the usual screen. 1.45v for NB and 1.8v for SB I/O ok?

1st attempt
3.6ghz
vCore: 1.1125v
RAM: 1.9v 900mhz 4-4-4-12
BSOD just after BIOS

2nd attempt
3.6ghz
vCore: 1.1125v
RAM: 1.95v 900mhz 4-5-4-15
BSOD just after BIOS

3rd attempt
3.6ghz
vCore: 1.1250v
RAM: 2.1v 900mhz 5-5-5-15
BSOD after Vista loading screen

4th attempt
3.6ghz
vCore: 1.15v
RAM: 2.0v 900mhz 5-5-5-15
Worked!

I'm pretty sure there was one more attempt but oh wells. Seems like it was the vCore that held me back that time.

Idle i'm getting ~36c  lol. I'm not complaining :P
Load: 57c

Oh but i did take the side panel off so that might be why.. but still that's quite a temp difference with just the side panel off if that is the reason.

Edit: Oh that sucks.. IntelBurnTest says it isn't stable.. but it went highest 57c.. dunno what it could be?
Grrr failed again..
Haha P95 failed almost straight away.

I can actually see a difference in the start up applications though :)

Upped the vCore to 1.175v

Edit: Anddd it's stable :D
Load temps: 58c
52c with P95.

I'm gonna leave it at 3.8ghz, because for beyond that i have to up the voltages by ridiculous increments to get it stable, meaning temps are high as well.
Gonna see how far i can push it though.
Still attempting to get 4ghz stable.

Your CPU should be alright upto 1.4V, think thats what Intel says is the maximum (but I'd double check first).

But still, 3.8 is a nice improvment, nice work! :D

Yeah, should be fine, but not 100% comfortable with it and the temps.

And thanks :)
Was easier than i thought it would be, luckily.

I lied about leaving it.. i'm gonna see how much performance i can get out of the ram at these speed. Meaning just the timings, but hopefully better than 5-5-5-15.
3.8ghz is a 42.5% overclock increase though :D

Done 7 attempts trying to get 4ghz stable though.

Attempt 1
vCore: 1.275v
BSOD after loading screen

A2
vCore: 1.3v
BSOD after loading screen

A3
NB Core: 1.5v (from 1.45v)
BSOD after trying to run an application

A4
NB Core: 1.525v
Unstable with IntelBurnTest (IBT)
Load: 71c

A5
vCore: 1.3125v
Unstable with IBT

A6
vCore: 1.325v
RAM: 2.2v
Load: 75c
Unstable with IBT

A7 + Final attempt - Full settings
4ghz
vCore: 1.325v
RAM: 2.2v 1000mhz @ 5-5-5-15
NB Core: 1.55v
Idle: ~43c
Load with IBT: 75c

Now i'm gonna see if i can tighten the RAM timings.

Yea, using Intel Burn Test really send the temp of that chip up high!! Probably best staying at 3.8 and decent temps. Your using one of the best coolers out so not much more you can do about those temps!
