just a quick question...is using a overclocking tool such as the one i got with my mobo any good, its just that my first overclock using the bios and an overclocking guide lead to a system crash:confused:

why not post info about what your system and oc is, so that we can direct you how to overclock it and not get it to crash? =]

You're far better using the BIOS.

The Windows tools are far more suited to those that don't have any overclocking options in their BIOS.

Are you on stock cooling?

What settings were you at settings were you trying when it crashed? Vcore, fsb multiplier etc.

3ghz should just be a case of changing the FSB to 375mhz and dropping your memory divider if necessary (or setting the correct memory voltage if your memory can handle the new clock).

Have you set the correct memory voltage?

Also up your northbridge (MCH) volts by 0.1v to boost it for the four sticks of memory.
