Overclocking Ram

Do as i said for the previous user to test possibilities of 1866, 2000, 2133 on XMS3.

Also have you tried raising BLK??? You can do it this way too upto around 105. Ivy on air will hit 108 but some other components dont like this much long term.

Ivy loves BLK so give it a try.

BIOS just boot loops when trying 2000

What would you say is most beneficial, higher frequency or tighter timings?

This is what I was running but trying to get some more performance from my RAM

Sorry to hijack the thread btw

Hi 8pack, i've stopped overclocking my ram since all this cmos clearing has started to give me issues.

In particular with driver issues and corrupted files. May continue once i get it all sorted out.

Higher Frequency, then tune from that. I need a mem tweak it shot to see your current timings.

This is classic instability in the RAM. Maybe that RAM is simply not suited to Overclocking. If I get chance I will put some sticks out and have a play on an ASUS board. I know the 1866 do 2450+ , The 2400 do 2500+ and the 2800 same on X79. Not had chance with them on Z77 yet either but Z77 is generally better in terms of both frequency and timings.

I thought as much, i've set my ram back to the standard xmp profile and its all smooth sailing again.

if you was In my situation would you fork out the extra for some higher speed ram?

I can get some G.skill trident X 2400mhz ram for under £60 and money isn't an issue here.

I had those Trident X (Samsung IC) at DDR 2520 rock stable on a Gene build for months. This speed does depend on your IMC on the CPU but is certainly possible.

Samsung Green as Wazza points out are also a good Set of Dimms that work well on that board. They are not binned as such like the Trident are though so if you fall short of 2400 you cant complain!!!!! LOL!!!

Sorry to hijack Jay, if you mind I can start a new thread?

8 Pack here's where I'm at

And some screens of my BIOS, not with the correct settings just grabbed to show you my options

These sub timings are fairly tight. You have two options up frequency or tune primary timings.

I would up frequency first. Then Try Cas 9 and 1T command rate.

I tried 2000 at those settings and the bios just looped. What sub timings should I try to get the frequency higher?

Tried at 1866 and windows hung loading....
