And the answers on there make me even more cautious now, god knows what I could have being doing to my body.

Some days I might have 2 cans of beans, some pasta, like tortellini with spinach and cheese in it, a bowl of cereals with milk ofc, and perhaps a tuna and cheese sarnie.

So the amount of salt I'm probably having is stupid.

Is the risks of going over the daily amount over estimated or is it really dangerous?

Interested to see what the people of OcUK think.

Thanks
Will.

"My daddy puts 13 packs of salt on one mcdonalds hamburger. we have all told him for years he was going to dye young from this. now he just sits in his recliner at 94yrs old putting that salt on his burger and making jokes. so I guess everybody is different."

Perfectly fine according to Yahoo Answers.

You're probably fine. I know of people who've been told they don't eat enough salt - so swings and roundabouts!

Really health advice is always the same - eat varied food, ideally fresh and made from scratch so you know what's in it, and exercise (sweating might even help you lose some salt if you're taking in too much - but don't quote me on that one).

I imagine you're not salt-curing yourself yet! :)

Yahoo Answers is my #1 source for accurate information these days, it used to be Wikipedia but someone told me that anyone can edit it so I don't trust it as much these days.

I had bad kidneys as a child and was in hospital a lot. It wasn't due to salt - but now, the only thing I have salt with is potato (roast, chips) and nothing else (ie, if it's a roast dinner, I wont put it on the rest of my dinner).

I think a lot of food that is ready made contains enough salt for our diets - I don't really see the need to consume more of it. I see salt a lot worse that fats, sugars, excessive amount of carbs etc.

My Dad's currently in hospital (intensive care as of yesterday :() as a result of several things including sodium (salt) deficiency - he's had a huge amount of it pumped into him via a drip.. so make sure you don't cut it out completely.

You need a certain amount, but like anything too much is bad.

It is amazing just how much salt is in innocuous foods these days. The more worrying thing for me is that our food is getting blander and blander, with a more chemical led taste then anything else (we're getting as bad here as America).

Also bear in mind you might be helping fund communist China, as they're a large producer of salt.

Sorry to hear that. :(

As said, just make sure you're not always going over the 'limit' but don't cut it out completely. Obviously the RDA is just an estimate anyway so take it with a pinch of salt. ;)

As opposed to the past where magical fairy dust gave food it's flavour.
And meat was parachuted in by fairies, yes. Whats your point?

You must be in a bad mood today Alan. E-numbers, salts, preservatives and various other chemicals are getting ever more present in food, it's not particularly difficult to find that out if you actually look at the food you're buying, and have done over a period of time.

I love salt on my food, especially a fry up on Sunday :D. Never mind what salt you're eating, just don't eat too much junk. Everything in moderation and all that
